Ventilation system opionons wanted for this CAB

I want to hear from the community about this set up I have designed.

Give it to me the good bad and the ugly!

This set up only calls for a 4" PC fan currently but keep in mind i will be swapping it out for a stanley blower at a later date.


This set up has 1 4" exhaust and 2 4" Intakes

Intake 1 comes into the mom cab and out of the mom cab into the flower cab

Intake 2 comes into the flower cab

I will of coarse install a light trap in between the two cabs



So will this do the job or do i have more work to do before I start cutting stuffs?

You should have bigger/more/even openings for outtake rather then intake., otherwise your system has no backpressure and weed smell might blow out the intakes.

8 compact fluros would be extremely inefficent. I suggest using standard 2' fluro tubes with a couple of CFL's for vertical positioned lighting. Less heat, more efficent.

Also fluroescants do not have enough canopy penetration to warrant such a raised height from the ground. With fluros you want lots of short plants to fill up the space.

As far as heat goes, with 10 total CFL's it might be iffy.

You should look into pl-l lights, or a 150 watt hps. Better light, less heat. 8 43 watt CFLs will cost you about 80 bucks, plus sockets and wire. Same price or less can get you more a better set up, that will be way easier to cool. Read in the micro grows thread and learn from some people who have similar sized set ups. Good luck

The 2 bulbs in the mother cab will cost a whopping $6.00


The 8 in the flower cab will only be around $40.00 probbly less because I already had a few

42 watt ones are 7-10 bucks a piece, here Smaller ones are way cheaper. 42 watt cfls put out alot of heat, they are bright and work...but 8 in a small space will put out way more heat than a 150 hps..and then you could use the couple you have as side lighting. Doubt one pc fan will cool two chambers, but your stanely will if you vent it right...dont skimp on intake, do it right the first time.

You asked if it will work right before you cut? Depends on what kind of temps you want, with your sketch, I would say it is going to be too hot in the flower chamber until you get a bigger fan. Lights wise, if you buy only 6 42 watt CFLs for 7 bucks it would be 42 dollars, plus sockets...so 50 bucks.

150 watt ballast kit, socket and bulb 58 bucks delivered. Put the 150 with the a few CFLs on the side...would yeild more than just CFL's for sure. For 8 bucks more, you will get more in the long run...and it will be eaiser to cool. 8 is alot of bulbs to cool, keep that in mind. Good luck, take care.

Ok I am listening .. But how much is the replacement bulb gonna cost on the 150 ?

How much more or less power will the 150 consume over the other.

How close can you get to a 150 I dont have a lot of room in here as you can see so that is also a factor

Check 1000 bulbs website, that is where you can get everything I listed for 58 bucks...extra bulb 7 bucks, get a few so you have extra so you dont have to buy later. They are more way more in the stores anyways.

Well 6 x 42 watts is 252 watts right? That is 100 more watts than 150 watts HPS...but the HPS will give better results, and less heat. Put a CFL bulb or two on the sides of the cab to help fatten sides and lower areas. As for light distance, if you make a cooltube...you can touch the plants. Even without a cooltube, it will be easier to cool than that many CFLs. Also, a darkroom louver is the easiest way to light proof your wall inbetween...but it restricts airflow, big time! Plan for proper ventillation, if not your cabs will not cool right. Air takes the path of least resistance, so if you dont vent right or not enough it will be too hot. Atleast 2x size intake as exhaust size. Your mother chamber will be less watts, so it will be easier to cool. Good luck, and take my advice and start looking in the Micro Grows forum. There are alot of cabs similar, so you can see what works for them best. Take your time and do it right...if it costs a few bucks more right now, u will make everything you put into the system and more your first harvest.

What will be your method of growing, and how many plants you wanna do?

Ive been looking around for a while lol

I dont know SOG SCROG I dunno depends

My design shows 2x intake to exhaust as it is

Just not much in the way of power on the exhaust fan it does cool a cab half the size just fine

What If i want to do a little vegging in the mother cab will the 2 23 watters be enough ?

should I plan for more?

yeah, those 23 watters are good for vegging, u can mix up the spectrum too. You can always add watts, u dont want too much light in mother chamber...it will overgrow that area. Are you gonna need a scrubber? That will slow the fan down alot. A stanley fan, with scrubber could easily cool a 150 and your CFLs. Have a similar set up, so have a little experience. How many plants do you want? Dirt or hydro? You should figure out that if you dont know. Good luck

Get your air straightened out before tweeking on the lights....

Having intakes from two separate areas is going to bring in the "path of least resistance" into the picture.

If you are going to use the Stanley blower, then use a 6" exit port.
Cut two 6" intake ports into the mom room, and then another two 6" ports between mom and flower rooms. This will allow the fan to pull the proper amount of air into both chambers. There is no need for the fan in between the chambers, as it won't help much. If you add an additional hole for it (in addition to the two 6" holes), you can use it, but it won't produce much difference.

Without your air flow squared away, the lights don't matter.

Nice tip on the vents!

That fan is not in between the 2 chambers its only in the flower and its just or air movement

Im thinking mabey ill just seperate the 2 chambers and let them each have their own vent system

If we are looking for critiques...
The information you provided is not quite correct. For there to be a negative air flow, and your exhaust fan to work at it's optimum potential, you need to have at the very least 10% more opening at the intake as you do exhaust opening.
A 6" fan exhausting needs at least a 6" intake+10%, but much better to simply double the intake orifice size to be certain there is proper passive intake air to allow negative pressure in the box or room.
