I have never set up a ventilation system before, I simply use box fans with a furnace filter on back and it’s works wonderfully for my cheap leds
I purchased a 1000w de hps around this time last year, and tried to grow without proper ventilation, and in return my plants were reggie lol. Embarrassing and more of a waste of time growing then not growing
I eventually gave in months later and took the hps down and returned to my leds and I’m glad I made that decision for my last crop because although they are a few weeks off course due to heat stress, they look good and smell like they once did before the hps.
Now I want to go back and do a sog with the hps and I have a few questions
I have a room that I currently use, with a closet also that I use as well. I plan on removing the doors from the hinges and using 18mm sandle plywood to replace the doors, and drilling holes into these for ducting. Is this good enough? Can I go thinner?
the HPS did not come with an air cooled hood. I looked up a few on amazon and saw they had some for around 170 for de ballasts. My question is do I need to switch hoods or can I just draw heat from the top of the room, or draw heat using a 5 foot duct coming from the door hanging near the hps lamp? I figure I can and also my closet which will be ventilated now as well does not have hoods like an hps would.
This room in connected to a bathroom which I will be using for the exhaust. The door that connects the room and the bathroom will be removed and replaced with the plywood. Is it possible for me to set up my intake to come from the bathroom as well? The door to the bathroom will presumably be open for the majority of the time that the room in running.
Last question I have in concerning the central ac. Do I need to worry about the vent that is used for the ac at all whatsoever? Can this vent be the intake hole?
Thank you in advance for any replies I have done the math and it turns out I need between 400-670 cfm for the grow room and 120-205 cfm for the closet in order to change the air in the respectable rooms 3-5 times per minute. I plan to have the closet duct run from the closet to the plywood door which separates the room and the bathroom, as well as the hps room (which is in between closet and bathroom of course) getting vented through the bathroom/grow room plywood as well using two separate holes/fans. And then I plan on running an intake fan from the bottom of this plywood with ducting going to the closet with it on fan, and then I’m left with providing intake for the larger room
