ventilation nightmare!

sorry this might sound like a rant. it actually kind of is because of my plants i cant go anywhere in my house with my clothes than underwear on and im constantly bathing in my own sweat. yay. i live in the south past 2 wks during midday is like 100-102F PLUS my central a/c is broken :( too scared to call landlord though.

so to the problem. my problem is that i have 2 portable a/cs in my bedroom for plants but with both of those bitchs pushing air out the window my bedroom has become a vacuum basically sucking air from the rest of the house and out the window. so the outcome is the a/cs end up being completely fucking pointless..... any one have any ideas???

Sealing the room and recirculating the air in the room. Shutting down long enough for the landlord to fix the ac. Using fans throughout the house. Just off the cuff. That's it. I'm outta ideas.

I have never used a portable A/C but perhaps you could use them to cool off another lung room that could feed cool air to your grow room?

As I understand portables, they are less than 1/2 as efficient as window mounted units. Is this an option?

Probably the simplest solution would be to fix your central air. You pay for your landlord's services so you might as well use them. Even if you need to break some stuff down for a day or two it would be worth it.

you're walking on thin lava
someone (especially a landord or maintenance man) may hear your portable ac units and wonder wtf?
schedule repair for the central air conditioner ASAP
when it's time, place your plants somewhere for a few hours...car trunk, storage, friends, etc
sell your portable units

none of these plants can be moved. its 1800watts in that room 2 seperate flowering chambers 1 room is almost 6 weeks in (flowering moms) and they are 5 and 1/2 ft tall.... then a 4x4 ebb/flo tray with 36 plants that are all 3' tall and 3 wks into flower. moving any of that shit outside of my residence is simply not an option. i understand port a/cs suck but it was that or nothin window unit wasnt an option :(

trust me i know i literally have the most UN ideal grow location possible but i got everything ridin on these hoes finishing... everything....

Any way you can seal the room and recirculate the ac? What kind of portable ac- single or dual hose? How big of area?
One thing if I may. You say you got everything riding on this. Don't let desperation over rule common sense.
Why can't the landlord fix the central ac? The units are usually outside or is this up in the attic? Is there controls in your grow area?

word, if the unit is near the room and you have odor issues is one thing, but if you just dont want him anywhere near your op is another, is there anyway you can exhaust that a/c? whats the temps of your rez?

It has been unusually awful in the sunny south lately. I can't help but laugh at the picture you paint, but I sure wouldn't be laughing it was me doing the underwear walk. I think you gotta hide the plants away from AC units, handle the odor, and get the air fixed. Do you think there's a cold snap coming in July and August ? You know it's going to get hotter.

Wavedish, you basically have to get that a/c fixed. Do you know a HVAC guy? If you do just pay to have it fixed yourself and tell your landlord later after you harvested. I know what you mean about the heat. It has been brutal the last couple of weeks. But in is only going to be the same or worse coming up later this summer. Be safe and use common sense, no need in getting caught. Just my two sense.

wave- man oh man ive been there doing the underwear walk in the dead of summer and had everything riding on the crop. let me run through some ideas.

you say you have your portable ac units blowing air out the window. so why cant you just put window units in?

another idea, sounds like you have single hose ac unit. if you have any spare cash go to home depot and buy the dual hose unit. this will give you a 95% enclosed environment which will be more efficient. and only try running that. its like 13kbtu so it should get you by.

if no money dig in between the couch cushions and go buy a 4x8x 1/2" insulate board and some 6" flex pipe and silicone. take the board and measure up the intake on your unit for the condenser. simply cut pieces to build a box around the intake. use tape to hold them together until to get a chance to seal all the seams with silicone. cut a 6" hole run the flex pipe outside. boom you turned your single hose unit into a dual hose. this should help ALOT. ive done this before and worked well.

only thing i would worried about is the room since everything is riding on it. if any of this ables you to get the room stable to finish the grow then good. close the door and let them finish and leave the rest of the house hot. in the mean time get out. go to the mall. go to the bookstore. go watch a movie during the day and come back when the house is cool.

for the next go around take your clones a week late so you can compensate the time it takes to fix the ac. clear your room of grow equipment and get that bitch fix. put your clones somewhere where they can still root and not be seen.

some advice. have your light cycle at night when its cooler. the south is brutal. ive been in this situation before and i know the stress your under. for everything riding on this maybe to need to analise your situation so you dont get put here again.(no disrespect) try to give your self a cushion for failure. escape route.

Damn I feel ya man, I have been in your exact same situation - hard not to laugh about it. I ended up just calling an outside source like someone else recommended.

Is the AC outside?

Central AC sounds like it's outside... :2cents:

Hey man,

let me just chime in here to give you some support. I am only growing with a 150w hps in a very stealthy cab, and I still have paranoid dreams about my landlord discovering it sometimes. I can only imagine how you must feel right now.

You've got to think and figure out the path of least resistance. Good luck man. Keep that head clear, don't do anything rash.

As smalltymer pointed out...fabricate an enclosure to make the AC units dual hose. Don't forget to install a small fan on those intakes tho...the actual dual hose units use them, you should to.

If you don't have odor control on those single hose units exhausts either. Bad idea.
