ventilation for 4 1000s

I am getting ready to get next system going. In my experience a higher output (750cfm+) 8" centrifugal fan is more than enough to keep 2 air cooled 1000s cool.

This time I am going to be running 4 lights, but they will also be with the 8" hoods instead of standard 6" to improve airflow.

Can I get by with 1 10" fan cooling all 4 lights? it is cold outside here now and I will only be doing 1 grow at this location so it will be cool outside for the duration. planning on having 2 rows of 2 lights so there will be 1 bend in the ducting.

Or should I run 2 8" fans from the same carbon filter, 1 for each row of 2 lights?

what is the general rule of CFM needed ventilate per sq ft?

any feedback greatly appreciated

I'm planning something similar and have the same question! I've got 3 six inch vortexes and was wondering if I could cool two 1k's with a 6inch vortex each or if that would be too hot (ambient temps are 60-70 on average...)
And what about a scrubber for a 70 sq ft room? I have a 375 and 400cfm phat filter right now...

Hi Two,

The more ventilation in the long run the better, well kind of. Bigger ducting ran at a lower load is not only more efficient, but also quieter.

The only aspect I see you are possibly overlooking is the flow rate of the fans matching up with the carbon filter. Putting two larger sized fans on one carbon filter can overflow the carbon filters capacity to work correctly if it is not large enough to handle the increased cfm flowrate. Match the flowrate with the carbon filters, and listen to 00420. Spot on advice 00420

also, have you thought about flip flop 2k? This way you only need 2k at a time, something you seem to be familiar with already. Although your situation may not permit it. The heat difference from 2k to 4k is quite noticeable.

thanks for the great feedback all.

PHattybudz, 1 6" vortex will be enough to keep 2 thouwies cool under proper circumstances. I have done exactly that before, with no AC. But then, those were the only lights in the room and it had sufficient room..

I have thought about flip flop but I want it all contained in 1 room and dont want to put up a wall. Its not a huge space.

Yes I had thought of filter cfms and that would definitely be an issue with 2 8"s. I've decided to only run 3 due to budget reasons so I'll probably just do the 1 10 which pretty much defeats the purpose of this thread lol.

thanks again for the really good feedback all.

I am running 4KW hung vertically with no cool tubes. I have a large carbon filter hung near the ceiling with a Vortex 8" 747 CFM fan pulling and exhausting into the attic. The hot air rises naturally off the bulbs. My temps never get to 80 degrees. I also have a small fan blowing on the ballast's which keeps them much cooler.

I ran 4x1kw air cooled hoods. The hoods were 6" and the fan was a 8" vortex and the room was sealed. I ran 2 rows of 2 lights and brought them into a Y into the vortex. It worked well. 8000btu AC was the only cooling of the actual room. If I did it again, I would probably try to get 8" hoods...but ehh worked fine. Hand got kinda warm just under the glass but nothing like a bare bulb at all.

On the website from where i get my products and the store near me, they both suggest to use at least 150-200cfm per 1k lamp.

High guys, can I run 7 cool tubes in line with a 6inche 440cfm inline fan at each end of the line? 30000btu air condotionner. RR
