VEHICLE GPS TRACKING SYSTEMS

B

BlazingSaddles

Hi Guys,

It's common knowledge that law enforcement use GPS devices to track and monitor suspects movements these days, whats worse is there's about 1million of these whore monitoring companies only too happy to provide their services to law enforcement.

My question(s).... in terms of motor vehicle "bugging" does anyone know where are the likely places (on/in the vehicle) these GPS devices would be hidden by LEO? Is it true that they HAVE to be hard wired to a power source (car battery) so they can recharge or is there another way of covertly wiring these up to vehicles for medium - long term surveillance of suspects?

Also what are the counter devices to these GPS systems? Im guessing some sort of "bugging" detection device can be purchased so you could do regular sweeps.. U know the ones like you see in the movies lol..

Any help here much appreciated..

P.S No i don't think my car is bugged but i know for a fact this happens as there has been publicised cases in my country. At this point im more curious in counter measures etc...

BlazingSaddles:thank you:

They need to have somewhat of a view of the sky. So I don't think way under the belly of the car works. More like in bumpers or behind the radiator. Or in wheel wells behind the plastic. Maybe in doors, idk.

They can be hardwired or battery powered. Battery powered units need to be recharged or have the battery replaced after a while - anywhere from less than a day while moving up to a couple weeks.

There's really no way to sweep for them. GPS only needs to receive signal. Data could be logged to an attached usb, sd, or micro sd storage. Even if it is uploaded, it is probably periodically over the cellular network. So it would be hard to detect without isolating the car, waiting, and luck. Heck, if I made one I might consider only having it sync when the car is moving over 15mph or something, so you could never detect the transmission while the car was stationary.

Really, the only way I see to avoid them is detailed manual inspection of your vehicles on a regular basis.

If they've got a GPS "bug" on your vehicle, they already know way too fucking much.

You dropped the ball somewhere else.

if you do a search on ebay for gps trackers it will give you an idea what rippers and curious spouses will be using LEO's will most likely track you thru your smart phone

I've definitely spent time searching the underside of my truck for one of these after a few particularly shady situations.

All I know is that if I ever were to find one it would be getting stuck to the next freight train, cop car, or garbage truck that I see.

i have a small GPS frequency blocker that installs into my cig lighter....i tested it out on a portable GPS unit and sure enough it reads "cannot find satelitte" a few seconds after i stick it in....

they have battery powered ones that last for a week or so...so one way is to just garage a vehicle for a few weeks and use another one....

another thing to look out for is remote cameras...i read about a case in florida where the cops setup a remote camera across the street from a traphouse and recorded all the suspects coming and going, nothing when they had bags, etc....they also had their phones tapped and everything...and these guys were kinda smalltime only breaking down 10 elbos at a time shipped from california....florida is on some police state shit..

Yeah, if it's gotten to the point you find a GPS tracker and you don't have a jealous spouse, you're already screwed

You'll find the GPS unit behind the blue OnStar button :D

Seriously though, many newer cars have a GPS unit built into the car as part of the convenience electronics. I hate OnStar the worst, total vehicle control. One word from LEO, and they can not only track you, but shut it down.

Best bet is probably a signal blocker for the GPS as mentioned above. It'll still be talking to LEO, it'll just be saying "I dunno" :D Just make sure that little cigarette lighter unit extends outside enough to cover some thing outside the vehicle near the trunk. That's always going to be a favored spot for tracking devices, easiest to get to.

Gotta confirm what others have said, if they're tracking you, you're already busted; now they're after your friends.

i have a detector to sweep the vehicles.i havent bought a jammer yet. a few years back we pulled one off a friends vehicle. drove to his lawyers office and dropped it off.he got busted a few weeks later. not the lawyer. i got my setup from greatsouthernsecurity.com i think. the owners guide reccomends testing stationary and moving. if it just logs data your screwed if it transmits anything it can be detected
