Vegging Tropical Landraces in Hawaii?

Aloha Growers!

I recently moved to Hawaii and want to grow tropical strains, such as Malawi Gold, Golden Tiger x Punto rojo, or Ace's Viet Black x Thai.

Do I need to veg strains like this? Or can I put seeds directly into soil and let the sun work its magic? All of the local growers I've met tell me I'll end up with a short, stubby plant. I think they all grow hybrids, so they may not have experience with pure sativas.

Any ideas?

If your lucky to be in a "sweet spot" of a tropical place like you are now.
You can just plant away in the ground as is to my knowledge.
It's a natural from tropical cannabis cultivars to grow there as is.

I think indicas don't grow large in tropical places because they initiate flowering right away.
Sativas grow a long time and don't need the same long photoperiods that indicas need.

BTW: I wish I lived in a place like that for a few years. I can see myself
searching for the tiniest island to take over. I would get rid of all the sea birds,
cut all the shrubbery and plant the entire thing with 15 foot giants.

I'm not sure how it works there, but growers talk about 2 seasons a year. They have a "short season" and a "long season". Growing in Hawaii would be the best ever experience.

In most tropical zones with year round 12/12 day/night hours, you can get away with planting seeds straight into the outdoor planters.

To protect your precious seedlings from pests while they are still small and fragile, you can fashion cages over your planter, as described in one of the sticky subject topics in this outdoor grow forum. When the plants reach a foot or so tall, the cage can be removed to allow for the stretch that will ensue in your tropical climate
