Vegging days height?

1) I am trying to get an idea of how my vegging is coming along. Diaries and such tend to start recording days of flowering (and some mention days of veg after transplant) but I'm having trouble getting an idea of height in 20/4 per week or so. I understand strains will all differ, some wildly, but any general idea would be appreciated. Sorry if I've overlooked a sticky or something somewhere with a chart or something. HAHA.

2) This is my plan for my plants. I plant to grow them until the 2nd node up is branched out well enough that I can top it. Then I'm going to top the plants. I'm going to veg it until it's the right height for my cab. I have 4.5-5.5" to the top of the soil, and 20 to 22" of height to the bulb +1/2" of extra room. This means I have about 15-16" of plant room. I am 3 weeks from seed sprouting, and about 1 week from moving the seedlings over to soil. The best I can tell is I have about 2-3 weeks left of vegging if I grow these topped (topping in about 1-2 weeks from now.) and then switch over to 12/12 to flower for 8-12 weeks.

My goal is to pick females and take clones to veg into 1-2 mother plants. I have 2 more strains that I'm going to grow from seed. Given they will need 2 weeks to transplant into soil, and then another 3+ weeks to veg, It seems that I should paper towel those seeds about 4 weeks from harvest, right? By harvest, my mothers should be rooted and capable of producing 1-2 cuttlings, right?

This is my first grow if you can't tell. I am very anxious to see more progress!! I can smell the slightest scent of MJ from the larger of the plants now. I buried them to the leaves when I transplanted them so they are super small. Also they were vegging under 20/4 of warm light. I'm moving them to 18/6 today in hopes to get faster growth.

very hard to give any answers as it all depends on the strain- but i can tell you this...

when you top plants from seed, always leave at least 4 nodes on the plant or otherwise you risk stunting it.

with the limited height you have i would advise some kind of canopy management, either lst (bending the branches down, this helps them branch out as well) or scrog.

keep in mind that plants can double or triple in size during the 'stretch' in the first 2-4 weeks of flower - obviously if you train them this will be mostly sideways rather than upwards,

good luck

I hit "edit" and it created a new thread... weird..

The double or triple in size in flower comment was very helpful. Thanks.

I am growing in 20 oz bottles with 6-8 plants in a 10x12" area. I don't want to scrog because I may add plants into the flowering mix before I pull these (to make room in the mother cab).

I may do some light LST but I plan to keep the plants short. My eventual goal is to have 2 plants coming into flower every 2 weeks and keeping about 8 plants in flower. Since I'm going from seeds this time, I wanted to fill the space fairly well for a larger first harvest and use a 1-2 clones from 1-2 females to make a mother plant.

One thing that has become of concern to me is the extremely short distance between nodes. I'm talking about 1/4 of an inch between the first set of serrated leaves and the second set (that appear to have 3 leaves on the branch).

From looking at other people's plants, should I be pruning those first serrated leaves after I get a few nodes going? I've seen many plants that appear to be topped at the first node. Are they just pruning the lower leaves making it appear to the be the first node?

again its all down to the genetics and the conditions. if the plants are green and are growing then you should be fine. come flowering time its usually easier to keep plants from clone short than plants from seed. clones can be topped shorter as well.

Thanks again. It's an honor to have a post from you! I've greatly enjoyed all of your threads, especially the low watt micro stuff! :)

I can't wait to grow from clones, but I need to get a confirmed female mother plant first. I figured the best way to start was to top the plant and use the piece I take off the top as a labeled clone to pick a female from to use as a mommy. If you have another method you would recommend, I'm certainly open to ideas. I'm just winging it here.

I'm currently running (NYCDxG13Haze) x Agent Orange, and White x Grape Krush. I also have Bubblegum Haze and Mass Kush seeds. Waiting to pop them until I can use some seedlings. I expect to keep one of the AO hybrids and one of the bubblegum as a bonsai mommy in my micro mommy cab. I may keep 1 of the other two if I find them to be really nice for my cab.

I took 2 ops from a nice female and neither rooted. The iother 4 cutting I took from lower down and from other plants rooted. I believe the top stem was too hard or woody to clone from. I used a wally world cloner and they were in there fr 14 days. 4 goods sets of roots. Gunna rase those ladies and if I like the buds from the 1st run flowering now I'll clone off my clones..

Thanks for the reply brother.

I have abandoned my plans to clone the tops. I'm going to attempt to reveg my female plants unless I can get a good clone from the bottom somewhere. If I get a clone from one of the good females to take then I will simply throw it back in the flowering cab for another flowering run ala Dr. Bud.
