Vegging 5-7weeks, 7gal final VS 10gal pot

I’ll be running a 50/50 coco-perlite mix. Changing from my 70-30. 5gallon pots were just drying out a little too quick for me. I try to feed twice per day but sometimes can only do once, why I’m upping to 7s or 10s (not sure if lowering the coco % will help with quicker drying but it’s a premixed bag that’s fully ready to go and it’s the only thing they have)

. I’m thinking of vegging between 5-7 weeks before flip but for this concept let’s go the middle and say 6weeks veg. Would running 10gallon pots be that much more beneficial over 7s?

what kind of light are you vegging under? If you can only water once a day at times then even going with a 10g pot i wouldnt be thinking about lowering the coco % if anything i would lower the % of perlite.

whats your flowering light source?

Ceilings are 8ft max. But it’s not an issue I train them to stay small as well as I always run Mh first 2-2.5 weeks of stretch

What the hell are you growing that would require 7-10 gallons of substrate? Why would you water it by hand, and why would you change the ratio of coco/perlite to one that would require you to water even more frequently? None of it makes any sense.

Kind of goes hand in hand with your other thread I commented in... Using 10gal will allow you to water less frequently, that’s most likely all you’ll gain. In unscientific terms, there is only so much canopy and so many roots that will be viable based on how much light and space they have. IME 10 gallons of coco is more than enough to yield 2.5-3 # under 1kw in a 4x4 space. Can be done with 1 plant in 10gal of coco or 10 plants in 1gal of coco. That area and light can only produce so much, after that you’re not gaining anything.. just using more medium and watering less frequently, which can end up being a bad thing if you go too big. You want to be able to feed coco similar to hydro and keep fresh nutes going in regularly.

If I were you I’d start researching soil and organics. It really seems to be better suited to the method you’re wanting to grow, and just about anyone will tell you proper organic bud>all. Definite learning curve, but there are guys on here that have it down pat and are pulling incredible harvests time after time without even tilling or replacing the soil.. pretty neat stuff.

Coco should be viewed as a hydro medium, otherwise you’re really not gonna get the full benefits.

7-10 gal would just be to water less... changing the percent from 50/50 to 70/30 would be to add more coco (which would hold more water). The brands mix only had 50/50 or 100% perlite so if I wanted to raise the mix percent I’d have to do it by hand.....

@purple yeah I’m debating on SOG over a long drawn out veg. It comes down to cost for all 10 clones in 1 gal vs 4 clones in 7-10gal. I’d atleast run 4 plants under the 1k if I go that route.
