Yes, The MH is a point source of light and will hit harder than a CFL of the same watts.

Edit: They will also stretch much less under the MH.

Yeah MH just puts out more light, more intensely. If you are going to use CFLs just be sure to have them as close to the plant at all times to reduce stretch, and maybe go with a strain known for keeping compact.

My CFLs are almost touching the plants at all times, it means I have to check my plants daily, but it has kept stretch very minimum.

Definitely,cos of the light spectrum which mh puts out.See,plants veg better under the blue end of the spectrum,which is the light put out by MH,whereas when you switch to flower,the red end of the spectrum is preferred,which is where high pressure sodium comes into play.What this light does is that it fools the plant into thinking that the harvest sun has arrived,so it needs to flower! Hope this explains things for ya,good luck.

Doyu, I must have sat and watched your sig for a whole few minutes.

If you do go CFL, spend the extra bit to get blue spectrum lights for veg and red for flower.
