veg to flower

My initial growing knowledge came from an old version of Jorge Cervates Bible. The version I got my hands on is about maybe 7 years ago. Anyway he recommended giving 36 hours of darkness for the transition from 24/0 to 12/12. This is to give it the clear and distinct signal to begin flowering.

However someone told me recently that this information is outdated and it is not necessary. Switching directly from 24/0 to 12/12 is the best approach to take. Any opinions on this? Thanks

Go straight to 12/12. 36 hours of darkness doesn't occur in nature, so I see it as pointless. Besides, if 24/0 to 12/12 isn't a clear enough signal, I don't know what is.

I've always gone from 24/0 to 12/12 with no issues

Or, step it down from 24/0 to 18/6, then 12/12

36 hours of darkness is pointless

I give 3 days in the dark between 24/0 and 12/12 and rush into flowering.
I have read this is a good way to start flowering and worked for me.

Lotz of good ways ta go about it. All about what feelz right to you...

I do 24-36 hrs of darkness before the first lights on of flowering, it might not do anything, but I do it because I was taught to... I guess I could do some runs with and without the extended darkness and note the differences...

What I'm trying to say is that 24/0-->12/12 works 18/6-->12/12 works 24/0-->long darkness-->12/12 works

Is there a benefit? I'm really not sure...

I do think 3 days is a bit excessive though...

i guess the only way to truly know is to experiment with it. but 36 isnt excessive so i might just continue with it

I always go form 18/6 to 12/12, the plants have never not known it is flower time. All strains stretch and develop budsites on time like clockwork. If anything I think you are missing a whole 12 hour period of light the plants could have produced into energy and grown.

Do a test, take one out and shut it up in a closet for 36 hours, let the others go right to 12/12, see if the closet plant flowers faster. I think what you will find is it makes no noticeable difference except maybe the ones left under the light are a tad more developed at 14 days 12/12. The plants don't need our help to notice the amount of light they are receiving is less, if there is one thing they know it is light. Why try and reinvent the wheel especially since it isn't broken?

I´m in a situation where I should switch to 12/12 in a week or two but (scatter brained as I am) I also planted some seeds late and they are just seedlings at the moment. Anyone have a guess how the little ones will develop with a shorter period (they are all on 22/2 at the moment)? I don´t have room for second grow space.
