Veg time

Is there a rule on veg time or can I just veg indefinitely till I'm ready to go 12-12?

You can usually veg indefinitely unless your growing an auto-flowering strain. Those ones don't need the change to 12/12 to trigger flower, they have an internal timer that puts them into flower after a certain amount of days.

Vegging indefinitely is really just another name for a Mom plant
