Veg plants in coco are pale green?!?

I am using coco and B'cuzz Growth A and B nutrients with RO water that I mix with my tap water.
In veg the plants don't green up as much as they should, the green fades to the vein, what I mean is the greenest part of the leaf is in the middle of the leaf and fades going away from center.
I think I read that K can be an issue for coco, that it causes the N to get locked out? What could I use to get them greened up, get some Nitrogen? Am I wrong to think a 1/4 tsp/gal of epsom salts? I would like to see faster growth than what I'm currently seeing. The last round of plants were like this too but once in flower they greened up very nicely and are doing great.

Would really appreciate direction.

Thank you,

If the veins remain green and the leaves around it are yellow, sounds like a micronutrient problem like magnesium. Are you giving them any nutrients and micronutrients?

I would use 1/2 teaspoon of epsom salts 1/4 would not be enough if they are deficient.

Do you have any pictures?

What's your PH look like?
What is your watering/feed schedule?
Watering to run-off?
Any idea the ppm of your tap water?
Have you had a chance to look at some of the stickies in the coco forum?

I am in my first all coco grow, coming from organic soil, and have had a few problems similar to yours when my run-off ppm gets more than my feed or my run-off PH wanders up over 6.4. A good flush back to 5.8-6.0 and get my ppm down to the same as my flush water and I am back on track.

I shoot for 5.8 and usaually hit between 6.0 and 5.7. I am in process of getting some calibration fluid to check accuracy of my Hanna meter.

What is your watering/feed schedule?

Once a day

Watering to run-off?

Yes

70 ppm

Yes, and revisiting. I added a 1/4 tsp to two gal of feed and gave that to the seedlings tonight.

MynameStitch,

I will post pics tomorrow. Thanks!
Fwiw, when transplanting today the roots on the clones looked excellent. Would like to see them greener/healthier looking and more aggressive growth and I would be happy. If the seedlings continue to look improved after adding the epsom salts to their food tonight then I will add it in for the clones for their feeding tomorrow.

Thanks Guys!!

Did you flush the coco before use? I've seen a lot of pale plants growing in coco /coco blends that aren't thoroughly flushed.

:D

Do you have any pictures of your plants? It also takes a few days before you notice any difference, it does not happen overnight unless you are growing hydro.

Sorry, no pics yet but I have been adding a little less than a 1/4 tsp/gallon epsom salts and they look better. I am also planning to pick up some Stress Zyme that Cannagirl posted about here Stress Zyme thread

Just an update, all plants are doing swell! Using the Stress Zyme and adding 2ml/gal of Cal Mag+ now. I had first used epsom salts for two weeks (1/4 tsp/gal or less). I am now keeping EC at 0.8, I had been going as high as 1.1

Tell me if I'm wrong, but it seems to me that the plant has more of a tendency in coco for root growth when young. I am working on getting a 2nd cycle of plants into the flower hut since changing to coco and CMH at the same time. I am alot more careful about watching for the roots girdling now and, also, I am using CMH bulbs now in both veg and flower and that could be the root cause for the slow to start veg growth. ;)

Actually, the coco I use is really clean with a light flush of nutrient added to the bricks. I found that out after I flushed them! :nono:

Sorry, I use Atami B'cuzz Coco Bounce bags. The bricks come in a 3 gal grow bag but I have since recycled it into various size bags and a storage bin for......storage.

Fresh coco grabs and holds the first nutes like a sponge, slowly giving them up over time. This is an issue sometimes as people don't "charge up" the coco and the plants suffer a bit.

2ml/gal is a very weak dose of CalMag. A regular maintenance dose is 5ml/gal and an aggressive dose is 8 ml/gal. You should up it to 5ml/gal until you see some improvement.

Well since the coco holds onto the first nutes it receives, it's like "charging up" a dead battery. The first dose goes to the coco and is not available to the plant yet, so another dose is required for the plant. On the other end, when you stop nutes and flush, the coco will give back stored nutes for a few more days. It's like a nute buffer.

Ahhh, I see what you mean now. I was so confused and trying to think about what you meant, but now I fully understand :)
