VB Thai versus Orient Express

Both of these strains sound like they have a nice warm, sociable and relatively clear effect, and I believe from what I have read they share the same Vietnam Black mother. I am curious about what sets the two apart in terms of how they feel?

For anyone who has tried both, is the VB Thai more up and motivating, perhaps more psychedelic than the OE?

I know the VB Thai is not as easy to grow indoors or quite as high yielding as OE but does the extra care it requires equate to a nicer effect in the end? I realize its all very subjective.

Like many others, I am having a tough time narrowing down which Ace strains to try out. There are just so many nice sounding strains to choose from.

One last question. I believe both of these strains are F1s so I imagine that when it comes to doing a little personal pollen chucking stains such as Nep Jam and Panama are probably a better choice for producing nice hybrids?

I haven't smoked either of the two strains but the big difference between those two are going to be yield and the fact that the VB Thai is a pure sativa.

The Orient Express has some of the China Yunnan so its going to finish way faster and end up yielding more.

If you are growing indoors I would say go for the Orient Express.

The VB Thai would be much better outdoor where size limitations aren't there.

If you want a pure sativa to grow indoors and make some crosses with I'd go for the Panama.

I think VB Thai crossed with OE would be interesting though.

Panama X OE would also be interesting if you are looking for something psychedelic.

I like the sound of that cross, the VB Thia and OE. I bet you could find a nice wide range of phenos.

The panama already has its place at the top of my wish list. It sounds like such a great old school smoke.

Since the panama is likely to be a bit too heavy for a lot of life's day to day activities I'm also trying to decide on a clear, social and happy daytime strain that will work well for depression which is where the OE, VB Thia and Tikal all look like they could shine.

I am normally not a fan of anything with much indica in it due to the dysphoric and stupifying effect it seems to have on me most of the time, but all those glowing smoke and grow reports on this forum have really changed my mind about the OE. I just fear that some of the more indica leaning phenos might be quite stoney and sluggish but I haven't seen anybody describe it that way. It's pretty amazing considering its almost a 50/50 mix. I wonder if OE has some of the nice beneficial effects the indicas tend to have for pain and inflammation.

The VB must be very dominant when it comes to the high, or perhaps the Yunnan is just a very different kind of indica than what I'm used to.

The Yunnan indica is a pretty special plant if I'm not mistaken, pretty unique among most indicas, probably because it has some sativa in it.

The Erdpurt is your typical narcotic-like indica.

Next run after this Panama I am planning on throwing some pollen around but I still haven't made my mind up on what I'm going to be crossing. Hopefully I'll have a good panama pheno to play with. I'm going to see if I can get some female pollen from these.

Yeah it definitely sounds like its something of an intermediate form at least as far as the effects go. It's a bit like a lot of the highland or higher latitude sativas which although being pure land races, they often have a lot of indica like characteristics such as the wide leaves and short flowering etc.

Although I haven't had a chance to sample many SE Asian strains, mostly thia, the ones I have tried were all quite nice. It's one of the reasons I ran across Ace. They have a very nice selection from this area.

Hello Hatter,

lurkmaster gave some good tips  Orient Express (vietnam black china) is much friendly for indoor grows and to smoke than vietnam black thai. For what i read the high is what you are looking for: warm, clear, social motivating, nice focused effect of mid-high potency...

Orient Express is now an F3 line, semi stabilized hybrid, great strain to make high yielding happy hybrids that are easy to grow :)

Best regards!

I didn't realize OE had been stabilized out to F3 already. That's good to know. It definitely sounds like the best fit for what I am looking for. Thanks =)

On a side note: I think the website might have some old information in the description of Orient Express. I remember seeing it described as an F1 there.
