The 1000 is no longer made by Vaportek. They are sold by a guy with excess inventory. If you need carts, you buy from him.
I'm not sure what the physical difference is, but I would imagine there is some improvements.
I have the 4000 and have a very stinky grow. I use a carbon filter on the direct room exaust and have the Vaportek to help deal with secondary leakage as well as the smell of drying bud, my bong and pot smoking as well as 2 cat boxes. I run at a setting of around 2 so it should last a long time before needing replacement cart.
I have to say, once I determined what setting to use, the odors are totally under control.
The only negative I can list about the Vaportek is that it makes a little bit of noise from the fan. It's noticeable from about 8 feet if the house is quiet.

I would imagine at the 10 setting it would cover the odor of a dead body.
I don't plan on discontinuing the use of the carbon scrubber. One can never have too many odor controls

I've had a vaportec 4000 since last fall, and I don't use a carbon scrubber. I have it sitting on top of the flowering cabinet, seetings between 1-2 have taken care of any odor problems. I haven't grown out any super stinky strians, but without the vaportec the area smells very dank and with it almost nothing. When I have to start pusing it above 2 it's time for a new cartridge. The thread Alex referenced sold me on it....

Actually they have one that is even stronger now that fits in the restorator cartridge the part number is 90-5150 and costs $66 I called VaporTek today and asked that other cartridge.
