I recently moved, and the last day I was there, I brought a vacuum-sealed ounce of Guido in a jar (sealed last June) to my neighbor that I knew smoked, but he never knew I grew or smoked. I gave it to him as a gift, and when he broke that seal with a hiss and the smell was released, he was just freaking grinning ear to ear. Perfectly cured, perfectly preserved. That's the way to go, no doubt.

Makes a good impression, doesn't it? :)

Looks really good, I once heard someone saying to put a little it of nitrogen into the jar right before it seals for a long shelf life...I wonder how that would effect potency. Hs anyone done that?

I've heard of people doing that, but never first-hand. I don't think it would affect potency much if at all, since nitrogen doesn't really react with anything (that's why it's commonly used).

I'd definitely try it if I had easy access to it.

The nitrogen is used because it is inert. It displaces the oxygen so the buds can't oxidize and bacterial/fungal growth is inhibited.

It just does a small exchange/flush of nitrogen right before sealing..

you get it at wine shops i think, nitrogen is an inert gas, so it comes in a little aeresol can and you in theory shoot the oxegen out of the pocket in a half drank bottle of wine and then re cork it, the nitrogen being the only thing left inside the bottle means it shouldn't go bad as fast. the theory here is to do the same thing with jars of weed so that the oxegen doesn't "oxidize" the thc and otherwise slowly degrade the weed sealed in a jar over time. i'm sure it probably helps a little, though i can't imagine a ton. i don't think the nitrogen is expensive though, so i dunno, lol might be worth a shot.

SenorSloth is spot on.
The wine preserving spray that they sell at wine shops could very well be a good addition to long term storage.
I believe the nitrogen is inert and heavier than air, so in a bottle it displaces the air and is in contact with the wine.
In a jar of grass you would not put a lot in, as you would also be removing gas during the vacuum process.
A gift of sealed glass grass sounds like the dogs bollix!
Thanks for the idea.

Yes nitrogen is heavy and will displace the oxygen. I used to work on electrical substations, the grey places with a bunch of wires and a building or 2 in them. The transformers had oil in them and when we drained the oil to replace with cleane oil we would put a good shot on nitrogen to keep the moist evening air out of the thing. That would be bad news getting water in the oil.

i'v also heard that curing your weed with nitrogen increases the life of u'r tires, handling & fuel efficiency... ;-)
