Using Coffee

First off here is a freak show if I ever saw one. JUST KIDDING

I'm perhaps as Organic soil freaky as the next guy here maybe more.

So you know I'm happy to find a soil forum.

I've been using ground Coffee as a soil amendment and as a side dressing plus I will brew up coffee and mix with my fish emulsion.

I wonder if I'm alone in this or if there is drawback to this.

Jack (JTG)

Pardon me.. I did a search and found many threads.

Used coffee grounds are a ready avaliable source of N. They work good as a top dressing, in the worm bin (worms love it and the filter) . I have never used none brewed coffee grounds though. I would think it is a little acidic. But you could use it to lower your PH.

The tannins might discolor or in high enough concentrations kill a plant if it works dont mess with it.

A grow buddy of mine and I were sharing that we see that PH seems to balance in a bio-active soil
So as a top dressing it seems to work out.

A good friend of mine owns an espresso shack. Now he takes all of his coffee grounds(and hes got more than anybody Ive seen) and spreads em over his veggie garden. Then in the spring he tills it all in. Has an amazing garden too. Im convinced its the coffee.:D
