Using an air intake ONLY?

Rusk

I have a small room (2,4 square meter) the only air in/outtake is through the door where i have placed 1 fan for intake and 1 for out. Unfortuntately i cant make holes in the walls or in the door since i don't own the apartment (+ it wouldnt be very stealth to have air in/outtakes in the walls to this room).

It has worked great during veg. Now i'm begining to worry about smell. One solution that i've been thinking about is this; I seal off the whole room (the door opening that is, since its the _only_ opening) with some plastic. I cut a hole the plastic for air to blow into the room (using a big fan which will stand on the floor inside the room).

What will happen, will it hurt the plants not to have any air outtake? Heat isn't such a big problem i think. Even without any air in/outtake (sometimes i have to close the door and the temp goes up to 32c after a few hours) i think it'll stay in the 27-28c range if i have an air intake at least.

Having a fan blowing out all the smell during flowering seems like a bad idea. A carbon filter is out of the question since i neither can afford one right now (will need to buy both filter + fan etc) and i can't make holes in the walls.

Suggestions, ideas?

Another thread mentioned buying your own door to cut proper vents in and storing the original.

SomeGuy: I'm sure i could find another door just like the one i have in the storage room, but again, it wont be very "stealth", it will be obvious that the room is used for something else than storing clothes ;)

messn'n'gommin': will check the links... i cant really afford to spend anything right now, all the budget is already spent on lamp etc. Maybe next grow..

u could take the light fixture down. remove the little braket that holds the light. put wire nuts on the wires. run 4 inch exhaust tubing for lights. that should help with heat. smell might help till u can get something. kitty litter works wonders.peace

You could take the door off, stash that out of view, put up a sheet of plastic in its place; cut intake and exhaust ports into that, then cover the door frame with some hippy bead curtain thingies or something similar.

Wait, you don't have any odor control in an apartment? Seriously? I'd get another door and fit it with and intake duct on the bottom and exhaust w/fan and carbon filter on top. I don't see how you can flower ANYTHING without odor control in an apartment!

Daemon: Could work if i put up e.g a poster over the venting holes (when visitors) i guess.. Gahh, i really need a carbon filter though, maybe i'll do one of the DIY ones..

wishbone420: So Kitty Litter can work? Nice.

Even_Steven: It will be too suspicious to remove the door, people will ger curious to why etc, and that's the least i want.

Some very creative ideas in those links messn'n'gommin'..

Thanks all, you're very helpful. No comment on my original idea, to just use an air intake? Will there be much smell anyways u think?

No problem Rusk, I took that into consideration when I mentioned it. I just thought that at some point down the road, when finances allowed, it might be something you would want to consider.

Also, you might find this interesting.

It isn't a scrubber, but it is supposed to cover it up strong smells pretty well. Another option would be to use Pinesol instead of the Ona. I think most any strong smelling product would work as well. Good luck Rusk

BTW: As for your idea about using just one opening for an intake, I don't think it will work out for you all that well. The air inside the room will have to go somewhere before you can replenish it with fresh air and there is no place for it to go. The only options I see for you is to either cut a hole for your exhaust and patch it ( not that difficult btw) when you decide to move out or try to cover up the smell somehow. Other than that, with no flow of air through the room the plants are going to use up more and more of the available CO2 in the room and that will slow growth. Hope this helps because you definitely have a puzzle to solve friend.

Namaste, mess

Depends on how you do it. Where I'm at a closet with a gas water heater or furnace will typically have a vent or even 2.
Another option would be a fully louvered door with covering on the inside to block the light, yet open top and bottom for vents.
