used Sun System 400w kit for $75. buy it?

Just wanting some input on buying used equipment. A forum member is wanting to sell his Sun System 400w kit(ballast, reflector, and an hps that's on 7 weeks of 12/12). He states the ballast has been running for about 3000 hrs. Is that old? I read that if you buy a used ballast that the capacitor should be replaced. How much do those run? Is it easy to change out? I'm on a budget trying to upgrade from my CFL box.

No, 3000 hrs is relatively young for a mag ballast. Also, capacitors cost ~$30, and are pretty easy to replace.

Sun System is a reputable company; all their lighting equipment is built to last. 3000 hours is only 125 days continuous and 250 days 12/12; that's practically new. Mag ballasts from a reputable company can last 10 years without a hitch. I say go for it.

Ok, thanks for your replies guys!! Ill probably pick it up along with a 400w CMH in the near future. Just looking at cab ideas!

if everything is in working condition and the reflector is nice then yes thats a good deal.i personally only buy new or from close friends but cant knock you for looking for a bargain
