upgrading to a 600w plus

so i plan on upgrading to a lumatek 600w with a new hood cost about 400. i know its not much, but its better than the 400w i have now.
the hood i have now is 18 inch X 15 inch... the one i want is 27 inch X 20inch... could i get away with using my old hood and save myself 150 bucks or would it be more cost effective to use the bigger hood

PS i plan on getting a light rail 3.5 sometime in the next year... so my next questions are, how well will it work with one 600w light? next, how long should the rail be if im only using one 600w light?

Well, we need a bit more information. What is the size/square footage/configuration of the flowering area?

A light mover isn't as good as having a second 600 watt lamp, but would give you much better yield than a single, static 600.

At first glance, if you can physically use the current hood (fit in the 600 bulb), why not get the mover now and upgrade the hood later? I think that'd be the best bang for the buck. As to how long a rail to get, well that depends again on area and configuration of your canopy. And I'd look at this guy's movers..I read about them a couple weeks ago and user reviews on the MJ boards are very favorable over the LightRail's, as far as longevity and towing power.

Another option would be to use the 600 plus the 400, as long as you can afford the watts (both in dollars and in amps on your circuit).

Yes. That sounds good aswell. Or buy another 600 insted of shade. Another 600 insted of mover and run 600x3 vert and 1 400'for veg.
Now we're cookin with peanut oil.

Well currently I'm not doing any growing... I plan on moving in the next 6 mounths, I wanted to get all my upgrades in advance. Flower room is a growtent area is going to be around 4.5ft wide 8ft long and 6.5ft tall, I plan on having a 600w on a 3-4 ft rail...And the reason y I don't get two 600w is my electric bill was alredy crazy high... I'm not trying to go full bore on equipment, but at the same time iwant to be able to upgrade if I want... like adding another light down the road, or co2 tank. I'm not smashing the stationary light setup, I have just really wanted a light mover for a long time

1 600 in that space is not enough. Light movers are not the answer for flowering plants. More for vegging plants.

Get another 600 and you will still have space left over in that tent.

This seems like the right answer...more light! Add the 400w to the 600, and in the meantime start gearing up for the new place with energy-saving ideas, like compact fluorescent's, etc. You gotta get that "crazy high" bill down, so you can get more crazy high!
