upgrading my tent...

i have a dr 80 tent and an all-in-one 250 hps with magnetic ballast that heats the tent up too much. i originally bought the light because the price was right at the time. but now i want to upgrade to a 250w lumatek ballast and a cooltube so i can get some purples working in my girls

a rough estimate on how many lumens my hps is producing is about 28,500. what i want to do i light the entire tent as evenly as possible and maximize the light in my tent without overheating it. the only way i see to do this it to add 4' t5 fluorescents running vertically in each corner. each 4' t5 produces about 5,000 initial lumens so 20,000 extra lumens in my little tent should be a sweet addition. it should definitely give much more light below the canopy to help develop the lower buds too.

that would basically raise my total lumens in the tent to just under 50,000. i think if i then go with a 250w lumatek ballast i could boost my total lumens even higher since the lumatek digital ballasts don't waist energy on the magnetic ballast and could possibly raise my hps lumen output by up to 30%.

i am really happy with how good my current grow is going, but with a few little additions i think i could turn my little tent into a super tent that i don't have to worry about temps on a daily basis like i currently do. has anyone else tried vertical fluoros in a tent like this? if so how did you like it?

i think vertical t5's would add alot more heat than it is worth. I see you didnt mention what type of fan you are using? a 4 inch inline should be all that would be necessary

remote the ballast from the combined fixture, put the ballast outside the tent and not in proximity to the intake(s) the money you'll save on the ballast will buy you more than a good cool tube. a diy cool tube is even less expensive.

ok i bought four t5 lights to run vertically up the corners of my tent. they are very bright once they warm up and will hopefully help me really light up my plants from top to bottom. they do warm the tent some, but once my cooltube is installed it shouldn't be a problem at all. i bought the t5's here, they have a plastic cover that will hopefully protect the plants from the heat

i decided to follow the DIY cooltube thread here (http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=62161) and i already have the pyrex bake-a-round. i just need to purchase the parts to make it and then get a digital ballast.

the tent should be able to produce a little better and hopefully i will be able to get some nice purples in there.
