Unofficial Coco Coir Growers Thread

all you need is a good search engine. advanced is a quality producer of nutes. and they work pretty good too. it's just a bit much with the constantly changing mixes. i likes the k.i.s.s. method. at least some top selling nutes should be available at your local shoppe. pure blend makes great nutes and priced right too. peace

I can tell you this for sure:) Alot of the innoculants contain other shit, like kelp meal of humic acid. You definately CAN burn with that shit, so make sure if you are innoculating, that you are aware of the other crap they throw in, to make it look like the innoculants are doing more then they actually may be.

Advanced's piranha and tarantula don't have other additives, but are VERY expensive. Best bet, which is what I am doing, is to buy the small packages, and innoculate by hand. There are many reports also of those 2 products making a mess of your rez, and making it terribly unstable when put into the rez as part of their nutrient program.

See, I'm good for something:)

I'm going to give you guys a good schooling on the mychorhizza, soon as do the research, after I study for midterms, plumb the new hydro grow, dig the outdoor grow's soil, transplant the cuts into the Ready-gro slabs(which I got BTW), trim 3lbs, and take a short vacation.

OK gang, Im in 5/6week w/my coco. I have been watering every other day w/1/2 dose nutes. Should I start watering every day. Will this increase my yeild, or would it be better to just keep the org regimdnt? Also, if I do start every day should i reduce nutes? Wish I could post pics, but needless to say the plants are doing fine otherwise. Ive only one issue in one of 7 strains. I just want to know if this would be to my benifit. Oh, 1gal to 5 gal pots the girls are in:)

-look foward to that

a couple of friends have been mixing soil or coco from previous grows into their newly bought medium to introduce some of the well developed colonies of benificials into the new mix-apparently it is a technique suggested by Soma

re:above question-i water with nutes every watering (ie 3 times a day), i think most of the coco growers do that

cheers

gaius and all, hi!

just transplanted my stonehedge mother into a 3gal pot so i'm waiting for that to take off.....eventually going to fill up a table with her clones, the sooner the better :D a bunch of beanlings popping up so i should be able to put on a good show this summer :sasmokin:

thought i'd drop by and share this hairy root porn with all of you

P.S. cloning in coco is great if you don't have room for the bubble cloner

I just wanted to drop in and say I love coco peat. I bought them at Home Depot thinking they were jiffy cubes, but they were great for my seedlings, easy to work with, i liked the way that they kept moist I didn't have to water the seedlings too much. I transplanted them and they had some good root systems I was very happy. 2 thumbs up for coco peat.

 thanks indi, it's a top cut off a stonehedge freebie.....props to sagarmatha, the stonehedge is a very vigorous/easy cloner, root system stronger than anything i've seen, i'd like to plop a clone in a 5gal dwc bucket and see what happens :chin:

I always use these bacterial mixes along with a few others to colonize my slabs. I only give it2-3 times in thtse beginning and then rely on them growing on their own. And I recommend doing this by hand (or dump filtered inoculant solution into your vat when there's only 5% left) They do mess pH and EC to some point, but I think it may become stabilized if given some weeks... (Like Bio Buckets and aqua culture (But sheer volume and diversity of species in the system may play a role when talking aquaponics...)

Sup cocoheads,
Is this good gunk or bad gunk?

I haven't flushed yet or cleaned the rez yet and I have allways had a little gunk in the rez. 3 days ago I added molasses to the rez and my gunk trippled. I think I read that molasses works like sweet in that it feeds the microheard and also adds a K and MG boost as well as carbs. So is this going to help out my grow? Or is it just going to clog shit and piss me off?
Thnx Guys

Hi Dalton! I'd definitly give that res a little rub down at the end of my run or maybe even a little at each changeout. (Beneficials shall live and flourish in the medium when you use one, thus keeping the solution healthy and clean.)
I've used molasses and bacteria in my res, but quit when I experienced unstable pH and fluctuating EC. I was trying to keep it stable and clean (dead) under my first 2 runs with slabs and drip-to-waste, so less in the tank I figured would be good...

This round I inoculate the slabs during veg/rooting and only add enzymes 0nce a week when the res is at 15-20%. (Canna now recommends 10ml/l when applied this way as opposed to the older 4ml/l weekly). I also use a few bacterial additives from advanced and recirculate this time, so I may try using molasses again. (Don't want the bacteria eating MY nutes you know )
I do think the solutuin can be stabilized if kept going -it does so in bioponics and similar systems- but for myself I have preferred to keep it dead up untill now. Gonna be fun to see how recirculating the nutes will go now... (Gonna change and/or add up weekly, but the ec have fallen 0.2 points every 24 hours the first 4 days. (I fed 1,2 and return is 0,4-0,7 plus the slabs were filled with water and stuff when I started them.)

I need to wrap this message up now, but I've fallen so in love with this medium and wan't all my things growing in it.

Now I only long for a good guide on keeping mother plants for 6-18months in coir. I'm sure there are someone out there using it for their mums. (I'll try a few, but any educated advice would really be helpful.

Ive have been using pbp soil @15-20ml per gallon,...cal mag @1.5-3ml per gallon(note:5 ml per g. of cal mag is higher than label claims!) liquid karma @ 10ml. per g.,....sweet @ 10ml. per g.,....pro tekt @ 1/2-1 tsp. per gallon,...sweet @ 10ml. per g.,...and sm-90 @ 3 ml. per g. for moisture penetration/wetting agent.....and have also been using .75ml per g. of pk-13/14(bramski's method) for weeks 3-6...

Ive had great results so far,...aside from the overdose of cal-mag untill I learned that 1.5=5 ml. in ppm....5ml. per g. seems ok if using RO water..
I water with a wand every 2-3 days (run to waste) and flush every 2 weeks to clear salt and nute buildup,......when I didnt flush my leaves were very dark green and crunchy....

Man I'd almost forgotten this post until I saw someone sharing this in a thread.... lol...and the watering frequency "divide" and nute trolling is still strong as ever :biglaugh: Just filtered your posts in this thread and was reminded of some things....anyways I was just telling some folks you'd shared this Cal/Mag issue months ago (October 2006)...some dude started a thread titled: "Cal/Mag stronger than bottle says"....I'd forgotten this post until I saw that...

Hope to see ya around soon

Now I only long for a good guide on keeping mother plants for 6-18months in coir.

I have had my mothers sitting in 4" pots for the past 6 months (<~~ Lazy) under 4x 40w floros. They have been handwatered everyday/other day with a nute solution of FloraNovaGrow (im using H3ad's forumla now 0-6-9) about .36 EC with LK and hygrozyme. There is no trick to it. Yes they look like shit and they need to be transplanted tommow, but it proves to me how well coco plants hold up.
