Unofficial Coco Coir Growers Thread

good point thc43, if the coco is gonna be full of salt and need hundreds of litters of flushing, then the few extra cent for canna or some other well cleaned coco becomes worth it.

i like the sound of that pelemix company bonecarver. those endless trays are pretty cool. same with the layered coco slabs and bags. if you talk to your grow shop, i'm sure they will order the stuff you want from pele. unless you can get the stuff you need from the factory directly. that would be cheaper.

i finally got it down to 2.0ec after about 400lts had gone through 10litres of coco, alot easier for me to buy canna and mix with perlite then do the coco prep of rhizo flush and folvic acid aver cheep coco taking two day to get it ready..

wow thats not nice at all! id go for the canna too :D in that case :D

there is lots of high quality coco beeing produced in srilanka - actually most coco seems to come from there :D maybe even canna? the most important is the post-processing and washing - that should be done in the factory :D crap to have to waste 400 liters of drinking water in this world.

there is ppl out there that wont get that much pure water in their lives.

rhizotonic is great - in every way. fully worth the bucks.

actually its such a good rooting aid u can root ur clones just misting them with it.

misting adult plants with rhizotonic and supervit is a full-on boost of healthyness. its very re-vitalizing. can bring dead clones back to life :D

Botanicare rocks!

Botanicare rocks!

Man, the folks at Botanicare are wicked awesome. They work hard to keep my business.

I have been using the 6" Boss Blocks lately. I found some chunks of red sandy soil that was introduced when they were composted in the sun in Sri Lanka. They UPS'd me free blocks to replace the contaminated ones.

I called in a few days ago just to give some feedback on their website and their products, particularly CNS17, and the gentleman asked for my address. Today, I got a case of 6" and 8" blocks in the mail.

I would freaking marry that company if I could.

nice one Jack, always cool when the supplyer isn't an asshole, lol. are you talking about 6 and 8cm starter cubes? or blocks of pressed coco? real nice of them to set you up, to compensate for the contaminated blocks. that's the way to make a good rep get even better.

but wedding bells? i don't know Jack, lol. shakes head smily:biglaugh:

They sent me 6-6" Boss Blocks and 6-8" Boss Blocks just for feedback. They are the compressed blocks in the poly grow bags.

I was flirting with the idea of Advanced Nutrients, but I know who loves me.

well i've made the move to coco for my next go.

got really tired of messing with soil grows and never getting the easy perfect understandable results i was looking for. something always went wrong and i could never figure out what the hell it was there were so many factors and this can be that and vice versa. #1 complaint is having to wait upwards or 2 weeks sometimes for the damn 2 gallon bags to dry out.. that is not friendly for nute changing or flushing regimens and it leaves me watching the plants for what seems like years without being able to adjust anything. coco just sounds perfect for me in that it drys out fast so i can water everyday and never worry about weird root issues that i can't diagnose correctly.

anyways i'm going to do a hand water run to waste setup in 2 or 3 gallon grow bags with this coir and see how it goes. may try to set up a drip system eventually.

first impressions of the stuff are good. its very nice to pick up a compact brick of coir instead of multiple large bags or soil/perlite! i went ahead and picked up botanicare's large brick as well as sunleaves brand (which was cheaper but seems coarser.. i really want a loose consistency to the coco as opposed to a denser soil like feel. it seems obvious to better air exchange, drainage, etc.) and also 2 small bits of gh regular brick and coarser mixed brick. should be interesting to see how they do. i will likely use a mix of the brands as well as seperate them to see which brand i like the best.

i will be starting out with my regular nutes.. pbp grow & soil bloom as well as lk, cal/mag+ and hygrozyme. blackstrap molasses too.

anyways its nice to see all the great info and diaries you coco guys have up. i hope this stuff really is the best all around medium! i'm sick of cold wet compacting soil.

If you look at the picks in the link BC posted for pele they show a Botanicare coco Boss block... looks like they are manufacturing them for botanicare.... well at least the Boss blocks

here is a link to the pic http://pelemix.com/imgtemp/multd.jpg

Yeah, I thought there was some connection there. Boss blocks have low salt content unless you get a couple bad ones like I did. I also buy a bunch at a time, so I am not too suprised.

It seems like Sri Lanka is the place for coco. Is there any other country of origin at the moment?

excellent! :D sounds awesome!

so u might be using coco from pele mix.. without even knowing it :D lol

bet many manifacturers just buy bulk coco - repack it with their logo and sell it to the growshops :D

the pic in the link is the new growbags from pelemix - with the layer of fiber in the botom - if u can get them - give them a try and tell us how they are :D the invention is theirs :D so if botanicare has the logo on it - its the coco of pelemix - just repacked. :D

peace

so how do those bags work? you break apart the coco and it fills that bag? ..but you leave the fiber layer in the bottom?

No you just unfold the top of the bag and do your flush by dumping water in through the unfolded top of the bag.. it drains out of holes in the bottom of the bag... then after the flush you give it a dose of at least PHd water or a complete fert feeding depending on your needs

you dont break them apart because they are layered in a way to promote water retention and root growth

Damn this thread moves fast. well it was like 2 pages ago, but thanks alot for the info thc43.

Oh about the blocks the GHMixed brick is loaded with salt and other random SriLanken artifact's. It should be avoided. I recently got my hands on the profit disks and the salt content is very low and and the consistency is awesome but It might be difficult in a handwatering setup without mixing with
more of a finer coco. It would probably dry out to fast and waste nutes without a recirc. I'm gonna check out the boss blocks next.

haha i'll check them out and see what i find.

i guess that means my mixes and comparos will be mostly botanicare and sunleaves centric if gh stuff isn't even pure coco.
