Unofficial Coco Coir Growers Thread

I believe I took a look at that stuff, and decided it was way overpriced, probably because they have to pay people to weave the baskets..lol.

It would however make a nice filter for the coco. I know my rez is full of the shit, but I use 5 gallon paint filters over sump pumps so my feed lines don't get clogged.

I think the best setup would be to use slabs with the coco fiber mats underneath. This way you get the rootzone of the slabs + the mats, and the filter of the mats.

There are soo many things you can use to catch the shit that comes outta the return line... panty hose, cheese cloth, old t-shirt... use your imagination...

As far as the coarse coco.. when I get done using these profit disks I am going to give the Sunleaves CoirBlock a try. Profit Disks - $35 for 20-23 gallons roughly, while the Sunleaves are $13 for around 16 gallons roughly... thats a major price difference! Mo Budz seems to be kicking serious ass with the Sunleaves, and he claims hes a beginner to coco and hydro!?!?!?!?.. I can't wait to try the stuff out...

20kw, are those not happy frickin roots?

I love Botanicare, but Boss blocks SUCK. I unwrapped a few blocks tonight from the bag. There was a large red clay sandy clump in each one that I had to carve out with a butter knife.

I am going with the clumpy Sunleaves coco from now on.

Are we sure it doesnt belong there?.. could it be something with bio stuff that might be needed? Jusr wondering as I have been considering the boss blocks.

I had 3 out of 24 that had these contaminants that were the size of a golf ball each. The gentleman at Botanicare confirmed that it was a contaminant over the phone. Seems when things are composted in the sun in Sri Lanka, contaminants can be introduced after sieving.

Ok, ty for the info

I was looking into using them... do you think a good soak then flush would have gotten rid of the contaminants?

No, they didn't wash away with about a gallon of pH'd water.

(For the win)

My only concern is even with perlite that nutes will drain right through the Sunleaves.

How is the consistency of the Profit discs?

Mulchy and fiberous. Very choice. These and feeding to waste gets expensive, however. :yoinks: Results are oustanding, though.

IndySativa - Yes, those are some very serious roots. Those plants aren't showing rootbound signs? WTF? If they made slabs, I'd be stoked.

So, who all is using Canna? I started using Canna, like I was saying, but I've still been using the Botanicare additives, because I already had them. I figure I should switch to the Canna Line, because these companies more or less make their nutrients to go with each other. A good example is PBP grow, which has 7% humic acid, where as most other companies put the humics in thier grow booster.

Anyways, the reason I was asking, is to see what if any of canna's additives everyone has used

Rhizotonic
Bio-boost
Boost
Cannazyme
PK 13/14

Is that it? No beneficial additive, no seperate grow and bloom boosters? Maybe I'm a sucker, but I seem to use alot of additives. I have noticed improvements with the addition of each though, over time.

I was into Canna until a few weeks ago. CNS17 from Botanicare has hooked me. I talked to their reps about the dirty coco today. The conversation progressed and they told me not to use any supplements with CNS17. I was surprised as I thought they would pimp their gear for my dollars.

Despite a few hiccups with Botanicare, I am not going back to Canna products.

EDIT* They totally reimbursed me for the dirty blocks. Their service is A1!

those are plenty of supplements, the rhizo is your root stimulator, the bioboost and cannazym takes care of our beneficials, the pk 13/14 is the flowering booster. i haven't use the boost before, but the others are all good additives used in the right way.

the amazing thing is what you can achieve with out any supplements using just A+B at the correct ph and dosage.

hey Jack Kerouac,

would be cool if you continue the test of cns17 where VT left off, it would be very cool to have a documented grow from start to finish using the cns line.

peace out

Otay. I have been trying to write a driver for my camera in Linux, but the chipset isn't documented yet. Argh. I hope I can ASAP.

Why does Cal-Mag continually come out 3 x stronger then it says is should? The reps told me to go by the PPM, but it causes alot of confusion for people, and potentially alot of problems. Other then that I loved Botanicare, until I went coco, and got that Ca Mg lockout.

Gaius - Have you ever found Canna to be short on Mg? That is something I have heard in the past.

I've never had a Cal/Mag issue in coco but apparantly a lot of peeps are and have. I've always used Botanicare's Cal/Mag how tha label reads, but I dose-up from tha smallest on up until I notice anything. Got Cal/Mag nearly full-tilt in all tha reservoirs, never been an issue. Shits crazy in coco.

Interesting.
Nandro :sasmokin:

Infact, only things i've had happen more than once since my switch to coco is N toxicitys early in flower and every now and then over-watering, but those are it.
