Handwatering Temp

Can I shock my plants watering with cold water? I use tap water...the shit is cold (winter here in the USA)....should I mix my nutes and feed with lukewarm water?

Today i noticed the top layer of my coco is brown(dry?) not dark(moist?) anymore.
I stired it up a bit to reveal the darker coco.
Is this just the top layer drying out?
My drip times are 3mins. every 4 hours using 1/2gph drippers.
The durban i have looks healthy--some yellow tips but thats from an earlier mag
deficiency.
Was thinking of laying some perlite on the top layer to keep it from
drying out, or should i change my drip times?-- or change to 1gph drippers?

yes better feed with water that's no colder then 17° ideally speaking up to 22° is still great for coco specially if the climate is coldish. ice cold water is not ideal at all. let it sit at room temp before using it.

happy new year

if it's really just the top layers that gets dry and your drippers are causing run off at least once a day, then you are ok and don't need to increase the watering times. if there is no more run off because the water from the drippers is all getting absorbed then you should increase the dripper times.

Do you guys see a difference with rhitozyme? I want to try it it is just so expensive. I am already suprised how much a and b i am going through.
Does any one notice that B seems to evaporate alot faster then A. I am always running out of B.

Thanks gaius-- yea i still get run off, so i'm ok.
Still might spread a layer of perlite just in case.

Thanks GM  Does anyone else using perlite get algae? I must include that I use Diatomaceous Earth frequently....I think it's the Diatamaceous Earth...or is it the PBP and additives? (organics + light = Algae)

Are there any PBP users that get algae in the medium?

Do any chem users ever get algal bloom? Anybody ever get algae at all with coco?

Happy New Year guys

I use to get algae untill i light proofed everything by switching to black buckets,
and adding sm-90 to my res.
yes nutes + light = algae, unless you add sm-90 or hydroguard to your res.
Using just h2o2 isn't enough imo.
Though h2o2 is good for cleaning your res, utensils and adding o2 .

Thanks for the help acidblue

Yea I can't use SM-90 right now....I am gonna drop the Cannazyme and switch back to Hygrozyme for this reason...I've used SM-90 almost two years now and I've seen it flat out DESTROY algae....but I cannot use it with the cannazyme.....I've been foliar feeding with it sometimes....

In fact I better run the SM-90 a week or two and just abate the Cannazyme for now....

I had algae growing on my rockwool cubes to the coco. I just cut out poly squares that fit my pots. It helped with algae, gnats, and also i see alot more root growth on the surface of the coco.

Do you see a difference between hygro and cannazyme? I was using cannazyme for a while and then ran out. The guy at the hydro store told me the hgygo was better and i did see alot of root growth after i switched.
Also the cannazyme expires unlike hygrozyme.

I have not used the Hygrozyme in a long time....not since my DWC days...so I can't note any visible or discernible differences insofar as the move from hygrozyme to cannazyme....I'll be making the move back to hygrozyme when I have the $$...

Excellent feedback jimjay...yea and the gnats love algae....gonna cover the growbags etc with spare panda or cardboard.....thanks

anyone know what to do about mould growing on the surface of coco? I've got excellent ventilation & even got a dehumidifier, but still have problems.

You sure it was mold? I had some stuff on my bcuzz coco that looked like mold but could only be seen if you looked really close, it turned out to not be mold.
If your vent. is good there should be no mold. You could try an oscillating fan around the top of the coco but if your conditions aren't right problems like your having will keep popping up. Whats the humidity like in there?

it's definitely white, hairy, & spreading mold, which didn't surprise me much before I got the dehumidifier, because it used to get over 70% humidity. Now I keep it ~50%, have the plants dancing in the breeze of a (sucking) centrifugal fan, and still I have the issues.

Hey blunderbus

that white stuff that can grow on the coco coir is not a problem. it is not mold. it's a beneficial fungus growth.

Gaiusmarius - That never would have occurred to me. The shit does not look beneficial, but now that you mention it, I remember hearing about beneficial fungus being added to canna coco in bags - Trichoderma Harzanium, according to google. I've written to canna for confirmation and will post the response. Thanks a lot, man - you just saved a mother from being chopped. Unfortunately 2 others were already purged weeks ago for the same reason...

Has anyone else seen this fungal growth on their coco?
