Unofficial Coco Coir Growers Thread

no man each plant need a dripper. it doesn'tz work well without. it's also best to have a RW cube or a small pot with coco to pre root them in, then cut the bottom off in the middle so the roots can grow through to the slabs. you really need the dripper spikes too, because otherwise those lines tend to block fast for some reason. also the spike help to hold the plant to the slab. having them in the pots for rooting and early vegging saves electricity and space and time. after a week of vegging in the small pots or rw cubes the plants show you their potential and you can better decide which plant goes where on the table.

anyone familar with advanced Nutes "Monkey Juice" its their base fertilizer for coco..
I have used canna coco now for 2+ yrs along with a few of advanced nutes addatives and have had FANTASTIC results. But I notice that leaf edge burn, curl and tip curl up.. are always a problems... no matter what... I now feed my strains at canna's lowest reccomeded rates and get way better results that when I was feeding at their highest recomended amounts....
BUt I really want to use Monkey Juice... and the AN regime, however I would like to hear.. and see, if possible, that it works .

Thanks to all who intelligently reply,.

its true cannas recomendations tend to be on the heavy side. i just go by ec not by mls per littre. only a few strains will really do well at their full strength nutes.

the bioboost is a good product, i have had very satisfying results using it. now i use the bio boost for one tank fill and the cal gel for the next and so on.

i hang out at the advanced site and everyone there agrees, don't use the monkey juice. it's totally not something you want to use.

Hey coco pros. your fine thread prompted me to register so I could post this question to you. I'm planning on growing in canna coco with strictly canna nutes. I'm wondering how my tap water will work with this setup that i'm planning. Here is the details on the water that I pulled from the city website where I live.
pH 8.0
Chlorine 0.6 ppm
Hardness 25 ppm or 1.5 grains
Alkalinity 25 ppm
Sodium 6 ppm
Flouride not detected
Turbidity 0.04 NTU

Is this water going to be ok to use or should i go out and secure some better water for this grow. In testing the runoff from this tap water in my soil grows, late in flower I get a reading of around 5.6, a bit low for soil I know.

that water u need to ad distilled water - or pass it thru a RO filter.

distilled water is more environmental friendly than RO filters.

Thanks Bonecarver, I was afraid that was going to be the answer. I think I can get RO water down at the grocery store, already got a jug ready.

canna's coco nutes are actually made to be used with tap water. i have no idea about those things that they list, but most of them are in all tap water. just add equal amounts of canna a+b till your desired ec is achieved, then add ph minus till the ph is reduced to 5.9 and away you go. a root stimulator to help get roots established well and quick is always good canna's rhizotonic works well. adding the cannazym also helps the slabs stay healthy for perfect root life. both bioboost and pk 13/14 are great products to stimulate flowering.

what we need to know is how high of an ec your tap water has. ph 8.0 is high, but not impossibly so, unless the ec is over 0.5, in which case some kind of ro filter becomes necessary.

wow - but i guess the water quality in nederland is better than here down in spain :D we get desalted sea water :O

only problem i can find to that above is when i use PK13-14 . it tends to bind with the calcium (lime) in the tapwater - and form plaster. but i bet its because we have high calcium level in the water. it goes all whiteish if i dont mic heavilly with distilled water :D

yeah bonecarver, it came to me after i posted that not all tap water is the same. my tap water has a pretty high quality, with a slight bit of chalk more then ideal. but i can do all my growing with tap water. some people have too high ec to start with in their tap water. those cases tend to get an ro filter. but when you use pure ro water, you need to add some trace elements once in a while. or use nutes that are made for ro water. or use 50/50 tap and ro water so you get some of the trace elements back.

I'm thinking of dropping PBP aswell.
I always get Mg deficiencies, even when using Cal-Mag+, in dwc or Flood N Drain.
My local Hydro store dosn't carry Canna, and they just droped Dutch Masters.
Bought some Fox Farm Grow Big gona give it a try on the next run.

Oh yea, How much worm castings should i add to my coco?
Currently using 70/30 coco and perlite mix in 1gal pots.
Sorry if this has already been asked.

I am happy with PBP...my plants have been green and healthy...and I have posted pics to prove it...............

I am switching because I am going to CNS 17.....by Botanicare.....formulated by Lyneete Morgan....

I'm tired of adding Ca/Mag +....I want simplicity.....

Also....it's only $26/gal..... :D And after reading the label....I am convinced I may not even need Cal/Mag....if I have issues I'll add it....

I'm gonna do a thread to test this CNS17 with my newborn Airbouirne G13 clone........

peace
