I may have to travel to/through the UAE for work.

Anyone have experience going here or through here? I am nervous after reading some of the headlines about searches there. I will be carrying nothing and will prob quit for 2 months prior to my travels. (as they have been known to imprison based on urine/blood tests)

Just wanted to hear other's experience.

Yes, it would be wise to stay WELL AWAY from any kind of drug over there as they would, if you get caught, land you in some serious BAD shit.

I read somewhere that in Dubai, a guy was searched with one of the machine's they speak of in the above article. He apparently had a fleck quite literally as big a grain or two of sand which was detected. Not sure what they did to him burt I remember the story saying he was held for MJ trafficking and was facing a long time.... Stupid extreme interpretations of old books...

it sounds like you are travelling alone? this is how you want to do it so you are responsible only for yourself. i have been told the searches are not that intense but if you get caught with the goods, it is trouble with a cap t.

lots of stories of stupid americans returning from r&r in europe and getting in a mess. and usually it is not the soldiers but rather the support peeps working for private industry; ie halliburton and their ilk. these folks get long checks but alcohol and dope is scarce in much of the war zone. they go on vaca and then cannot resist bringing just a bit back to where they work. their passports are a give away. you know the right track already. keep to yourself. peace-biteme

What the holy cow are you talking about? The strict MJ laws in the muslim world has very little to do with Islam from a historical perspective! While some muslims do frown upon drugusage, even marijuana, it is far from all!

That being said, it is the sad fact that they are VERY hard on drugs in UAE, and I would stay away from any involvement in drugs while there unless you know people really well, and have top security.

I know several people who smoked just fine in Dubai for years, but be careful!

I wouldn't carry ANY drugs on me, not even Rx (unless you have the script with you) if traveling to/from there. It's probably not as bad as the stories we here, but it's not worth taking chances.

A lot of my Muslim friends are religious and they smoke more than most people I know. They're strongly against alcohol but the Quran says nothing about Weed, and in fact, a Cannabis high doesn't fit under the Islamic description of 'intoxication' for most people.

Exactly. Hench my confusement. I hope it's a mistake and not just racism....

Anyway, I agree, DO NOT carry ANYTHING in the airport which could be questioned. I wouldn't take the chance of growing, and probably not even smoke while I was there, unless its a really good buddy who just had a single joint with him.

Anything else is bad news. They are VERY hard in UAE. Just don't risk anything, since they have a habit of making examples of people when it comes to any "drugs"

on my last trip to asia i payed 200 bucks more on the flight so i had NOT to have a stopover in that shithole country.

if you do go please report back afterwards about the situation i would be really interested!
