Unidentified pest

I've got a pest looks kinda like a tiny fruit fly or similar to an assassinator wasp, I see it all over my medium and on the edge of the pots.

A little history first: I had real bad thrips... the big ones like here:

I doktor doomed them first. Then I spinosad, then predatory nematodes. This was like one week into flower. A week after that, I spinosad again but then stopped cause of the flowering. So this type of tiny fly pest (a tiny thrip??) started showing up about a week after that, I doktor doomed again. Of course that lasted a few days, so back to the predatory nematodes.

That was last week. Here they are reappearing again. I hate the smell of the doktor doom... still smells like it a week later!

I've been top feeding them to keep the room real clean. They are supposed to be fill/drain. I've been thinking... I could make some real strong nicotine pesticide and spray that on the top of the medium every morning... or I could spray pyrythrin on the medium every day.

Will that mostly control many pests? Or should I be nailing them with/ spinosad again, day 30 of flower?

High m8, they sound like Fungus Gnats...Tiny flies where the wings are 4 x bigger than the body...they run around the top/just under your medium...What medium are you using?

If your using soil, scrape off the top 2/3 inches and discard...Then hang some yellow sticky strips around the base of your pots...To identify exactly what they are. I use a spray called `Gnat off`...A foliar spray, and it seems to keep on top of things.

Sorry i can`t be more help.

I appreciate it... they may be baby gnats. I've been using misquito dunks the whole time cause I had some big ones some time back.... these are smaller and harder to see.

some sand on the top of ur medium will stop them or u could let ur soil dry out an that will put a dent in them or u can just leave them they dont do any real damage to ur plants there just kinda annoying i've live with them for a while now no real worries brutha

the dunsk should kill any gnats... gnats start off as a larva which mesquito dunks target...

Diatomacious earth powder. The kind they sell for pool filters is cheap and works great, just dust the top of the rootball and it'll kill all the gnats as they emerge out of the soil.

Heya thankks for da advice but I think,,, I was just lookin at one with a loop.... it kinda looks like sciarid fly (in shape of body/etc) except that the biggest one is maybe 1mm in length.

I guess, looking at some pics, it is a type of fungus gnat. Seems to be different variety than the other i had though.

Oh yeah I meant to answer this: I'm using grodan cubes that were put in a pot with hydroton cause they had so much roots. Predatory nematodes were kinda week against these guys.

Well, I've got some misquito dunks I'll start with today. I've been spraying the top of the medium with lots of pyrethrin spray as a preventitive... seemed to help.

Do you guys think i should discard the medium even though I got dunks and more nematodes? :joint:

Fungus gnats are no reason to panic, they're not the borg ya know. If they keep flying up your nostrils too much you could try my suggestion, but you don't really need drastic chemical remedies.

mr greengenes is right. all soil born insects will be kill by a little diatomaceous earth. i water my plants, wait till it is absorbed, then lay a thick "1/4-1/2inch" layer on top of the soil. it is inert and non toxic to humans and animals, and the insects cant develop an immunity to it like chemical insecticides since it works by puncturing the "skin" of the insect and the dehydrate or dessicate them.

If they are fungus gnats, as Mr green says, they aint really a problem to your ladys, more of a pain in the ass for you...You could do as i do and run a blue light `insectocutor` during lights on. Its amazing how many of the pests they zap over 12 hours...Keep it low and near the base of your girls and watch the little critters fry...
