Underground Containers

I have seen one or 2 underground containers grows.
How big of land do you have to have for someone not to notice that you are burying containers in the ground?

I know most of them are existing bomb shelters and panic rooms… but what about building one now?

A construction worker friend of mine seems to think its totally possible with the right equipment to dig and place them in.

The best underground set up i seen was done by burying one of those big huge shipping crates(know he type i mean?)
He then had a small ish woden shed ontop(with a trap door to a ladder going down)*smileS*

Would love somit like that.....

One thing to considerwould be the fact it be a natural water trap...
Maybe your freind will have some idea on that(At worst you would have to run some drainage ditchs(Back bracking but cheap enough))

I don’t doubt at all that it can be done… but doing it safely?
So many possibilities with going underground, very much safer after the fact (burying) and what exactly do you do with all the misplaced dirt?

We've given it a great deal of thought . I've got 4+ hectors of land on the left coast . burrying a shipping container would yeild many benifits. (no ac in summer just run the airtube out 25-40' through dirt and in to unit)
I plan to build 2x4 walls w/ 4" ridgid foam insulation inside, (we lived in one for 3 mo while building our home, and MASS condensation, & mold):noway: two vapor barriors, escape tunnel, then put a shope above w/ a 4" slab to cover the mess. got to own my own tractor w/ back hoe to do the job, then spread the dirt arond abit.
Could'nt tell your mates tho.
lots of things to refine but its a fine idea :ying:

What size are the shipping containers?
Perhaps you get could one through some type of scrap yard, but it would need to be refurbished if it was getting scrapped im sure. New, I cant imagine what one of those things would cost. As far as tractors or tools, you should be able to rent any thing you need.

Bunkers container was pre dug but it is fantastic.

I was thinking of a 30-40 ft container... the used ones sell for about 1 grand.

Aoxo: You lives in a shipping container...?
Humidity.... yikes thats a LOT to worry about here.

Yep i would of guessed the container to cost a few grand,in the grand scheme of things it would pay for itself in one harvest(hell u would pay for all of the set up in one grow)

But then u got to sell it all....

So no just a pipe dream for me*smile*

I am planning on moving my grow out to my shed in the summer.Building a breese block shed.....Just at the thinking stage at mo

My main concern is how to make it so that it is not to cold in the winter(we get cold cold weather about 4-6 months a year)
So that be my main concern....I am hopeing there is some sort of insolater(that is safe)I can use on the walls...

as say not doing it till next year...But that is my main concern

Yes we did live in a coverted SC 30'x8'x8'. ok in late summer, but @ 12c or less Ahggg! condensation % molds & our Provincial flower- Milldew and that was with a openable skylight and 3'x4' awning window. I first thought about spraying foam insulation in the inside, but was afraid of gassin-off toxic vapors . I suppose one could place 2" ridgid foam on the outside (great place for insects to breed) or maybe a product called "Greywall" we use on 3m +concrete walls to seal out any water combined w/ 6-8" round rock backfill w/ 4" ADS perf drain would do the trick, I suppose. We settled on 2x4 w/4" ridgid foam & 6mill VB to allow outlets & switches .
:chin:
BTW ours cost $1,800.00 CDN delivered

Id say when bikers run the containers underground, they just dig the hole, steal the tractor trailer, back into the hole, drive the rig away and ditch it, fill the hole in.

I read about a place years ago, the guy had 3 of the containers underground interconnected, but the bonehead tapped right into a major powerline and although it took years, he was still able to get away with it, but got greedy.

This is something I've done a bit of research on. There is a guy in my area who sells shipping containers, delivers, and sets them up underground 4 storm shelters. He will deliver, dig the hole, run the plumbing, and bury a 40 footer for 5,000 USD. Works out to $15.63 a sq ft. Not bad from a building cost standpoint. I realize U can't do this everywhere, but storm shelters are common where I live. No one gives a second thought to U owning an underground building, unless that thought is envy. If U don't live in an area prone to Hurricanes or tornados (Local Hi-School football team name, lol) U could always claim it's a fallout shelter. That excuse should work practically anywhere. UNFORTUNATELY!
