wuzzup homies? i need some help please... so usually when i'm growing seedlings, they are under fluoros and don't experience much problems. i switched over to 600w hps and have been flowering a few other plants of varied age along with doing 12/12 from seed with 2 NYCD, 4 StrawDxNYCD, and 3 Mystery Bagseeds.

when they surfaced, they looked promising and showed vigor. after a few days went by, they laid down and seemed pretty stretchy. i left for 2 full days and come back to see yellowing/possible light bleaching.

What STRAIN are you growing? NYCD & STRAW-DxNYCD
What was the establishing technique? (seed or clone?) Seed
What is the age of your plants? 1.5-2 weeks
How Tall are the plants? 3-5 inches, none of them are standing straight. laid down on sides and seem stretchy.
What PHASE (seedling, vegetative or flower) are the plants in? Flower (12/12 from seed)
What size pots are you using? (Include how many subjects to pot) 6" square pots, unsure of actual volume
What substrate/medium are you using? What brand of soil mixture are you using?(percentage of perlite, vermiculite...etc?) Canadian Gold Organic Soil
What Nutrient's are you using? How much of each with how much water? How Often? *Knowing the brand is very helpful* Nothing. I have thrivealive, which might be helpful for a situation like this.

No ph'ing at all. I don't go quite full strength and make sure there is a little bit extra water, so my tea isn't hot.

How often are you watering? 3-4 days when they feel lighter
When was your last feeding and how often are you feeding? No feeding.
What size bulb are you using? 600w solarmax hps
What is the distance to the canopy? 1.5 ft.
What is your RH Factor? (Relative Humidity) 40%
What is the canopy temperature? high 70's-80
What is the Day/Night Temp? (Include fluctuation range) 60-70F
What is the current Air Flow? (cfm etc.) True CFM w/ filter = 168 CFM
Is the fan blowing directly at plants? No
Is the grow substrate constantly wet or moist? Mostly moist
Is your water HARD or SOFT? Hard
What water are you using? Reverse Osmosis (RO)? Tap? Bottled? Well water? Distilled? Mineral Water? Tap, source from Lake Superior. Let sit for 24+ hours.

move the lights/plants closer together to control that stretching. lets make those stems big.

I'm thinking the opposite.

Two week old seedlings, 18" away from a 600w HPS? You came back after 2 days to find yellowing and possible bleaching? 80° and 40% RH?

Don't move the light closer, you'll cook 'em for sure! :nono:

It looks like your seedlings haven't hardened off yet. Their stems are barely thicker than their tap roots and the heat has wilted them to the point of collapse! :badday:

Move that light about 24" - 30" from the tops of those seedlings and make sure the soil stays moist.

I would put them under fluoros to let them recover and harden up for a week. Give 'em a light feeding, another couple days under the fluoros and then move 'em under the HPS. My :2cents:.

Yeah,...I personally LOVE flouros for seedlings.

IMO all new growers should start/veg under shoplights. They're cheap, easy, cool and make it much easier to maximize watts, lumens and space!
...and oh yeah,....node spacing/stretch is minimized. I've had in excess of 20 nodes, on a 6'' seedling MANY t.mes!

Good luck and have fun!

ps; when you repot, shave a TEENY bit of 'skin' by the very base of the plant and give her some rooting agent so when you bury her stalk a bit deeper, she'll put out some new roots. (do in veg)

MJ and both stoned cold are very correct on this matter, also running 12/12 from seed you are going to have some problems due to not being able to have the light close, also the improper HPS spectrum, even though you do it from seed the plant takes time to switch over to the lighting changes to convert to flower due to them not being "mature" ready, you want to switch over to 12/12 when they have alternating nodes.

You not only have better yield but way less problems.
Not sure how storng your soil is though, but depending on the organics may be strong for them, and I am sure the yellowing has something to due with possibly the soil and lighting.

Have you checked the run off?

It may be peat related so which would be soiless mixture.....

pH needs to be different than soil.

i am very glad you are here right now! once i saw you posted, i knew you would know how to help me.

is it too late to put the seedlings into 24/0 for a while until they get a little bigger?

my soil is canadian gold which is sphagnum peat moss, perlite, wood charcoal, wetting agent, and lime. i do not have a ph meter and do not have ph up/down. what are some cheap ph kits that i can get that will work?

again, thanks so much!

I put mine into 12/12 around 8" away from the edge of an A/C 400 MH in a very nice environment. That's right from the time they poke through the soil. They sexed out but very healthy. I have too many girls as it is so my 12/12 will have to go on hold as I flower out some bushes. I used up my last couple of 80% sativa seeds on this effort. I mist my seedlings once a day away from the light & set them back. I have no heat issues on the MH side, my hps canopy gets warm I couldn't get them that close with that light.

lcoopa, you can get some from hardware place or pool supply stores, just make sure when you pick one up check the back of the bottle to ensure it has a pH range, like 4 pH up to 10 or something like that.

Your pH needs to be 5.5 to 6.3 range due to being soiless and having peat moss.
