UFO LED light....new age in lighting

After reading an article in treatingyourself magazine about this light i seriously am sceptical. It says it only uses 80 watts of power but out performs a 400 watt HID. You can get a 400 hps for $150 but the UFO light is $600. However it claims that the UFO doesn't consume as much power plus you don't need as much ventilation. Does anyone have experience with this light? I remember a LED thread on here last year and i wasn't impressed with the results, however i don't think that guys setup was store bought either. Just curious what every one's experience/opinion is on this new fad in lighting.

Hey Chief. I had a talk with the guy at the shop and he has tested them and said no way can this compete with a 600 watt hps and for the price you can get top of the line lighting and still have money left over the LED.

There are a couple people growing with leds now, I am watching them to see what happens. I would really like to get a bank of red for flowering, if theirs works!

A very Wise man lets the novice experiment with HIS dollars and watches carefully as the Novice shoots his load. Do you really, honestly and truthfully think for a moment that LED's, as they currently are, represent the best of the best?????

Save the opinion and prove he mathematics of this equation.

PS: Penetrration????????????how deep into the canopy?

is it bigger than a smoke detector?

I have seen much better led set ups, I was thinking about using it to supplement my already existing light, bring more red light in

LED thing is a POS.... for 600$ i could have 2 digital 600's (bulbs too!) with a hood.......

im with TyStik penetration sucks, and it dosent have as wide of a grow area, 600= 3x3 UFO =1.5x1.5 .....

I really think its funny everyone complains about the price so much, when IF it did work you would make it back very soon being that you could have an op 8x the size....

Unfortunately it is bs, I bought a pair of these right when they came out and even the thought of comparing them to a hid light is hilarious!

When it comes to the mfrs claims, yes it barely uses any power, yes it barely heats up your space, yes its bright as hell (really messes up your color vision if you look at it for a while) but unfortunately it hardly grows plants, from my experience pretty much on par with ~150 or so watts of cfls being pretty generous. Also there is a serious problem with the transition to flower, after 4 weeks there were merely bunches of pistals and the plants stretched like crazy.

Save your money, if/when leds or anything else does become the slightest bit viable you will know it.

Ya don't waste your time. I don't know what happened to Gopher with his suppose-to-be-god-of-LED's... He never showed the unit and kept promising to release it, but I never heard of it. He did show plants that look Fudging great and yielded really well, but who knows if it was all BS.

Yeah until I see someone with a couple of documented grows documenting how well these work I'll not be shelling out the money for these things:)

Thanks, that confirmed my suspicions

Dr.Dog, thanks for the link. Unfortunately there is no way to tell how they do when he is using them more for supplemental lighting

IMO, what the company advertises borders on false advertisement

I guess no1 listen to me when I stopped that BS thread last year....

The UFO doesn't work for FLOWERING.....you can veg...i think a mom tent would work well..but the UFO makes the plants STretchhhhhhhhh.. and is no match for a 600 HPS lol......in flower..

led lights can work just not this UFO....you need more and they must be at many angles to work...someday :joint:
