typical pot size for vegging mother?

If one wanted to start and maintain a mother from seed, in a closet for the purpose of cloning, what size pot would be good for 3-4 months? Say, using Pro Mix BX with EJ nutes...T5 or LED, theoretically speaking, of course.

You might find it better to transplant up from small starter pot into a larger container, progressively building the root ball. seedlings or small clones in big pots can be easy targets for over-watering, medium takes too long to dry and that's when the trouble starts. It can be done but the frequent transplanting is better for root development and the watering needs are easier to dial in.

Start seeds & clones in beer cups or starter trays. Then .75 or 1 gal pots. From there into 3 gal or 5 gal pots to flower. Moms are put into 2 or 3 gal from cups or 1 gal and root pruned & repotted as needed.

In 3-4 months you could go from 16 oz (21-40 days from germ, 14-28 days from rooted cutting) to 1 gal (21-30 days) to 3 gal (50-70 days). At the end of month 4, root prune & start again. Theoretically speaking. ;)

Sounds good. This scenario would be only keeping the mothers long enough to sex and get a batch of clones out of for spring OD planting. Anything remarkable found late in the season would be cloned then.

i keep small moms. 2 gal max and rootpruning. if i had bigger pots i would have less moms and rootpruning is more of a bitch. pot size is dependant on how big you want her and haw many clones ya need.

what is the frequency at which you need cuttings? and how many cuttings will you need at any one time? i have a mother in a 2 liter hand made smart pot, and she is able to give me about 6 to 8 cuttings per month.
