two questions

im thinking about using a thousand watt hps light for flowering my plants. my question for all you 1000w light users is what is your average light bill. i know there are other things that play a part in the bill but on average what is your bill lookin like. i live in the usa.

second question is for the last two tries i can not get my seeds to live after they germ. i killed a hole pack of sour diesel which run 150 for 10 and it f*ckin killed me. i just went through a whole pack of white rhino and 6 blueberry seeds. i have some 6 month seed starter that i used to germinate my sds with and ive tried some rockwool that i just used on the rw an bb's. any tips would help

i would wager 1000watt light running 24/7 would be in the 10dollar to 20dollar ranger per month , just about anywhere in usa. some of these online cost calculators on the hydro store sites u just need your bill enter watts , killwatt charge , time lights be on does the math for u but shoud fall somewhere in the 10-20range unless u over 1dollar kw , but thats doubtfull unless growing in CA or something u guys get raped over coals on every thing out there

try just droping them into some distilled water or bottled water and wait till they sink. they should sink in 24 hours, just tap the side and they should sink. then the lil root tip should be sticking out and plant them in some soil. make sure its moist. leave it alone for a few days make sure the soil stays moist. it should sprout then put them under some flouros then a bigger light that you use for veg when they get a lil bigger.

look on your power bill or call your elec company and ask how much your charged per kilowatt hr of power ussage then this is a good converter http://www.super-grow.biz/Electricity.jsp but on average a 1k hps light will run approx 75$ extra each month to run at 18/6 veg and 12/12 for flowern

lol...CID420 - I think you need to check your math :wink:

Running 12/12, a 1K will use 360 KWh + the ballast loss (about 10%)...so figure 400 KWh. Check your power bill to see your price per KWh and multiply that by 400.

The most common cause of seedling death is damping off...usually from overwatering. Are they falling over after they get an inch or two tall with a soft/mushy spot near the soil? Seedlings don't need much water...just fairly high humidity and a gentle mist occasionally. Soaking the soil (especially if it's not fast draining or the pot is too large) is a good way to kill off your seedlings.

I run one 600watt MH for 18hrs a day and A 1000Watt HPS for 12 hours a day one 180cfm fan and two swiveling fans on medium all day. my bill went up about $80 a month so I estimate the 1000watt light would make your bill go up $20 a month if you run it for 12hrs a day and would also guess that you electric bill would go up $25-$35 a month if you run it for 18hrs a day.

On to the second Q when I germinate seeds I start by letting them sit in a cup of plain faucet water until the seed drops to the bottom/sinks that usually means that the seed has absorbed all of the water it needs to start life, then I put the seeds in the 2" growdan rockwoll cubes with the precut hole for seeds I put the seed 1/4"-1/2" deep then let it go sit in a tuppereware container with a 1/2" of plain faucet water on the bottom to keep the rockwoll cubes nice and moist after 3-5 days the seedling will be up and about then when the root comes out the bottom also 3-5 days after you put the seed into the 2" rockwoll cube I put the 2" cube into a 6" or 4" cube depending if Im doing Hydo or soil.

damn if when i used my thousand watts they were only 10-20 a month that would hae been tight lol..after a 10000k watt grow (3 months, veg and bloom) our bill was 3500. that obviously included ventilation and airconditioning and such but the majority of hte power was the 10kwatts.. you will add about 70 bucks for your 1000.

ive tried letting the seeds sit in water then put them into soil and rockwool. some will sprout and then die. or some wont even sprout. i also have this humidity dome so it keeps the heat in and everything
