Two questions about STRETCH

First, after switching to 12/12 does the period that the plants stretch differ depending on conditions , strains, or any other factors? Or is the length of time usually the same? Two weeks?

Second, I have a friend who was forced to take cuts from floweing plants. I read a few threads about monster cropping, and of the plants that acctually rooted (about 40-50% of cuts taken) they seem to be exactly what monster cropping was described as. Short and BUSHY.

My question is when they stretch, will they till gain 2-3x their height? Or will they grow taller, but continue to grow out more than up?

Thanks

I don't know how the stretch period responds to environment. I doubt it matters much, unless conditions are so bad you reduce the stretch period to zero. :)

It's strain-dependent. A guy here swears .4 of total flower time is stretch time, that it's scientifically proven. I don't know from proven, but it matches my strains.

No, height gains are much less during stretch for bushes. Instead, all the branches stretch.

Well, sorta. I LST my bushes so they don't get much taller. But I guess a less trained gal would. Depends on how you train and prune them.

I find sativa dominate stains tend to stretch twices or more then indica doms, an when picking stains to grow' I try to keep an even canopy, grow sativas or indica's - an yes, they stretch more in hoter climate's.

:yeahthats

stretch is more or less genetic, but is influenced by the environment. sativas tend to stretch more then indicas, and yes high temps as well as high RH will cause plants to stretch more. also if you have too many plants in your area, they will start too compete with each other causing stretch.

Just a note here, but he asked about the stretch period, not the amount. And I've never seen anything that would suggest that the stretch period is influenced by environment. But I did see a thread the other day by a guy who uses an additive that makes them start showing flowers earlier so maybe there's something you can dose them with. But as far as temps, humidity, nute regimen, I've never heard anything like that that will alter the stretch period.

First, after switching to 12/12 does the period that the plants stretch differ depending on conditions , strains, or any other factors? Or is the length of time usually the same? Two weeks? It's pretty much a general baseline among the species but I've personally noticed that sativas don't respect the 2 week period and may continue to grow upward well into the bloom. Stay away from sativas in an indoor grow unless it's a hybrid (bred with an indica) of some type or you plan on training vigorously :)

Second, I have a friend who was forced to take cuts from floweing plants. I read a few threads about monster cropping, and of the plants that acctually rooted (about 40-50% of cuts taken) they seem to be exactly what monster cropping was described as. Short and BUSHY. I've seen this lol. It's pretty freaky. Seems like the crown shoots branches in every direction as if it was fimm'ed. Still make a habit of taking your cuttings before flowering begins. If you are worried that they will grow too much before their flowering round it up then take only a couple cuttings and rape those for clones a couple weeks before your initial bloom phase is finished.

My question is when they stretch, will they till gain 2-3x their height? Or will they grow taller, but continue to grow out more than up? They will generally gain 2 to 3 times their height as you've stated. Though pure sativa or sativa dominant strains may continue to grow upward well into the 2nd month of bloom. After the stretch they tend to fill in and bulk up with fruity goodness :).

Thanks
I hope this helps :)

stretch is largely strain dependent, and lasts for anything up to 4 weeks or more. some plants can quadruple in height - even as bushes

environment, light spectrum and nutes also have an influence on stretch. boosting P too much in early flowering will encourage stretch, as will warm temps, particularly in the first few hours of the day.

for a more advanced look at the environmental causes of stretch check out this thread!
