two choices

hey, i have a chance to grow some tropical sativas indoor, but i can't choose from two different kind of setups.

- there are already 10-12 seedlings of 100% sativa in rockwool cubes

but the question is; should i put them under 600w hps in 1.5-2 gal smart pots in soil and train them by mainlining? (tent 4x4 height 7)

or should i grow them in hydro nft under 240w qb and train them to scrog? (tent 2x4 height 6)

I am sure them sativas would love that hps, but not sure you can get same efficiency with hps and soil like with hydro. If the yeld from the smaller led grow would be enaugh for you, I'd pick that.

Is there a reason you can't do hydro under the HPS in the bigger tent? If the NFT isn't big enough, perhaps drain to waste in hempy buckets.

Both!

Yo wutwut, nice Panama grow recently bro. Between the two I would go with the larger tent. They'll appreciate the warmth and spectrum of the hps. Got 3 Malawis in that size container under 315 CMH. Unpruned and untamed with unsmart pots.

hmm.. yield is not the primary thing, so maybe i will go with led n hydro this time.

hey wutwut hows going it going id go 600hpschoice but either or you will do good with

hey! the life has it ups n downs, but now it's all going better, thanks for asking. i'm waiting for the summer and that wild outdoor garnening ;)

yep, that nft isn't big enough for 4x4, but also i'm going to run these both setups at same time. just wondering which option is better for tropical landrace sativa..

haha yes, both! but this time they will take in different strains. or.. hmm.. should i really run these seedlings in both setups.. now you made me to think this more hahaha. i had a plan to do sativa seedlings in one, and hybrid clones in one.
these sativas are going to be malawi and zamaldelica. i have no idea how long are they going to strech, so i'm thinking if they are better to prune and grow like scrog.

If you gonna use them both anyway, for sure consider doing it in the bigger tent with the hps and maybe coco or perlite or some kind of hydro medium with dtw or maybe recirculating. The sativas will both love the space and the spectrum in there.

I would go with the 4x4 tent its a perfect fit for the 600 hps unit.
I hope you really don't have pure sativas because they auto flower after one year, due to the fact that they come from the equator where the light cycle is always 12 hours all year round with no snow no winter no spring no fall just never ending summer. So all sativas are bred with Indica to make them flower with the change of light cycles. Just like ruderalis are bred with Indica or hybrids to create auto flowering plants that start to flower after just one month of vegetative growth.

For what its worth, Id go with the hps and 4x4. If you mix coco into your soil at a ratio of 2:1 (soil:coco), I found it increases overall yield by at least 33%+ compared to soil alone. You get coco-like growth with the convenience and quality of soil grown

For the Malawis, around half the plants will remain compact and the other half will do some skyclimbing even if started at 12/12.

2 are still climbing. Now at 11/13.

well, hmm.. if i go for 4x4 with 10-12 plants, what pot size do guys recommend for them? and how about growing method n veg time? i am thinking about mainlining, but then they need big pots, right?
with 2 gal pots that tent wont get full un-pruned, but when pruned, they would fit well to scrog.. ooo, so much thinking now.

also, i can start in 4x4 at the earliest after 3 weeks (and sativas are currently in seedling stage).

I think if you want to grow all 10-12 you simply have to go with the bigger tent. Go with the biggest pots you can fit in there which would probably be 3 gallon pots?

I agree with goingrey on the 3 gallon pots or the biggest you can fit.
If they are sativas in seedling stage, you could just bring them on fir 3 weeks (maybe do 1 topping, depending how much they progess) and then flip straight away.
