Turner Broadcasting responsible for bomb scare

Cartoon Network, a division of Turner Broadcasting, was responsible for the bomb scare in Boston promoting the cartoon "Aqua Teen and the Hunger Force". How would you like to be the executives that came up with this stunt. My prediction is one of the largest fines ever proposed on a public company and possible jail time for the rocket scientists that came up with this gem. LOL

I caught a glimpse on the news of one of the things they were calling a "bomb", that little cube-y looking character thingy.

Did not look like anything threatening in any conceivable way to me. In fact, it looked much more like a Lite Brite concoction.

Edit: And it's Aqua Teen Hunger Force, no "and" or "the" in there.....Just an fyi...Also, it was a promotion for an apparent upcoming ATHF movie.

I'm not that big on ATHF, Robo.

I much prefer Squidbillies, Robot Chicken, Venture Brothers & Moral Oral :D

I think aqua teen is by the far the best show cartoon network. It is so demented. Then again, so are most of their shows. Has anyone seen the stimutacs episode of sealab 2021?

Anyone who thought that they were bombs is an idiot. Besides it was done in a couple other cities too and nobody freaked out about it. It is so ridiculous how paranoid people in this country have become.

Adult Swim is some of the best programming on television these days. Always good entertainment.

That press conference was great, but that's what this whole damn thing is, a joke. My favorite part of the conference was something along the lines of
"That's not a hair question"
"are you afraid if you go to prision you'll get your hair cut?"
"that's a very good question."

I liked when the guy told the reprter " im disappointed in you" when he wasnt being taken seriously. So far, best press conference of the year. comic gold. Somoene should give those guys a joint or two for their troubles, they deserve it for the laughs they were able to provide

Judging by how the devices looked (with batteries sticking out) and the locations they were placed. And judging by the assninery in which these guys are conducting themselves at the press conference, I think this was an intentional publicity stunt.

This is one of those stunts that anyone could have pulled off, and many had already thought of before them (including myself), but you'd have to be a total asshole to actually do it. I think these guys have that assholish capacity and are just media whores trying to make a name for themselves.

If the police weren't over-reacting to this, I think they should go to prison for a very long time for wasting that much tax money and causing traffic backups.

These guys dont' work direclty for adult swim, they're contactors btw for those who didn't know.

And that is the goal of terrorism. Have the terrorists won?

Rubberband Man - It was an ad campaign, you don't need to be an asshole to stick a lit up cartoon figure on the wall. The assholes are the one that want these guys to be punished. Since when did wires + batteries = bomb?

It's so ridiculous. People act like we are constantly in such danger from terrorists. How many people do you know that were victims of terrorism? All this money is poured in to something that kills less people five gallon buckets.

Bro, it was an intentional bomb scare used to garner publicity not so much for their ad campaign (which they're of course going to be fired from) but for themselves.

Yes, they own/or work for an advertising firm. They hope that after they're done doing their probable 6 month jail sentence, that when they get out, other companies will want to hire "those crazy guys that did the aqua teen hunger force stunt."

People know better than to put something like this under bridges. How do you think the police found out about it? The emergency lines were flooded with phone calls. This is common sense. This isn't the same thing as putting a lite bright under the bridge where you go fishing in the summer and where you lost your virginity.

I think people got way too bent out of shape about it. I think the only reason they are going after such hard sentences/fines is because this whole thing made the city of Boston look like fools! Other cities didn't have a problem with it...or a terrorist scare. It was actaully kind of funny they showed them detonating a couple of them on the news throughout the day lol.

The press conference was great too. You could tell the guys were making the press angry but not answering the questions. "Ya I'm not too worried about the future of my hair" LOL.

Simpleword - I don't know if you misinterpreted my post, or if it wasn't worded well. What I meant was look at all the people freaking out about stupid shit. That's the goal of terrorism. They want Americans to go apeshit when they see some batteries and wires. Living in fear is what they want, and this incident shows how many people are living in fear.

Bull. This was nothing more than a creative way to advertise a show, and because the government has helped the terrorists instill a feeling of terror in everyone, people waaaaay overreacted. This happened in 9 other major cities. Did it cause them to shut down and cause problems? Nope.

Their press conference? They were advised by their lawyer to not talk about the incident, and they didn't. Why should they apologize and act like criminals when they did nothing wrong? They played it off as a joke, because that's exactly what this whole situation is. The city doesn't want to admit they overreacted, so they've gotta put the blame somewhere. Why not the crazy hippy with dreadlocks?

This wasn't a hoax, as many news outlets are claiming. In order to create a hoax, you have to be trying to imitate something. They were not trying to imitate bombs, they were putting little fucking lite-brite cartoon characters on buildings and structures. Oh shit, the end of the world.

Here is what I believe truely happened. If it wasn't for the incident in Boston, this ad campaign was a complete bust. The signs were placed 2 weeks prior to being noticed by Boston PD and in 9 other cities. They put a total of 41 signs in New York City and no one noticed them.
In an attempt to salvage the failed and unnoticed ad campaign, an employee of the ad agency calls in a suspicious looking package to the police. The police check it out and see a computer board with a figure giving them the finger with wires and batteries attached to it. They call in the bomb squad to check it out. After the first response appears on tv, they receive more calls alerting them of similar devices throughout the city. The ad agency probably called them in judging by how fast they were located.
The ad agency saves the campaign with their stunt, for now.

to be continued.......
