I was at Walmart, when I noticed two women in front of me stealing a large handbag. I let them go, reluctantly.

Would you turn them in, or let them go?

I wouldn't waste my time. It'd be like pissing in the wind. Karma will take care of it.

I wouldn't turn them in but would confront them and tell them how pathetic that is. I think it might do them some good and will make them think twice next time. No one likes to be humiliated.

have a little fun with it. step up and introduce yourself as store security, tell them you're about to take your dinner break and explain that having them arrested would take several hours between notifying the cops and filing store paperwork that you weren't willing to sacrifice. make them put back the handbag and offer to escort them out of the store.......

:dunno:

its not your job to get beat up over other peoples money. i saw a guy stealing what looked like a bottle of rum from cvs in az and had to walk out of the store at the same time as him which sucked cos i know he saw me see him steal it.

Yep, unless you really are store security, leave it be. Too many seriously disturbed folks out there. Being a good Samaritan to WalMart could get you shot.

About 25 years ago, I made the missus quit her job at a Supermarket after the manager (on a different shift, thankfully) was taken out to the parking lot and executed. Why? He stopped a shoplifter and they came back with a gun. Sad stuff.

I guess im the dissenting opinion. I would have casually sauntered away and told the nearest associate out of the thieves sight that they have a shop lifter and given them a brief description and gone on my way. More likely watched from a discreet distance as they're arrested because I enjoy watching shoplifters get busted. They're scum.

I would say Walmart can afford cctv and security... So let them do their job.
With big stores such as this thieves probably get caught most of the time, and if not they will know who they are for next time

I'm surprised so many people actually feel like Walmart deserve any favors..........

I'm sure they could care less if you had something stolen.

The real crime is them rocking a Walmart handbag once they leave the building.
What would the neighbors say?!

I have always been of the opinion that if you don't like how people do, and think it is for good reason, the only proper thing to do is to first say something to that person explaining why and providing an example of how it should be done.

You never know what condition drives a person and how much control they really have and to pass it off it off is as wrong and as impersonal as stealing.

What is worse, a desperate dude from a environment with little opportunity breaking rules to survive, or a wealthy, privileged dude who breaks rules under the veil of corporate insulation who takes lifetimes worth of money from people, simply to feed a quench for greed?

Not justifying stealing, I personally abhor it, but I think the marginalization of each other due ot apathy is just as undermining to society as a whole.

Look, Walmart has robbed countless "Mom & Pop" stores of their livelihood and in the way they do business they rob countless numbers of customers everyday. So maybe incidents of shoplifting like what you witnessed is just Karma paying Walmart back? :dunno:
