Trying unsulfured Blackstrap Molasses

J

JackTheGrower

I have mixed some Algamin ( Norwegian Ascophyllum kelp ) and a bit of blackstrap.

I foliar fed a bit and noticed it stuck to the walls.

I poured much of the mix at the stalk base of my plants.

I reserve Algamin for special feedings. I have a gallon of Bull Kelp for general feeding.

Any suggestions in use?

Thanks

Yeah. Don't spray it in your growroom if it sticks to the walls. Spray it in the shower or something. I hope you're using a relatively dilute concentration of it.

IMO It's better used at the roots than on foliage. Kelp is good on foliage though. I wouldn't spray molasses on my plants. Your plants aren't in flowering are they?

I'm no expert but isnt molasas just there too feed good microorganisims? Like you brew them up with an airstone for a few days beforehand then spray it on or pour into the soil.

actually molasses is a good source of micronutrients and macronutrients. These include (K), Mg, Ca, and many other needed nutrients.
It's also best used at the roots and not as a foliar spray..

It also feeds the microbose in the soil as mentioned before...but it also does so much more!

I've always heard that its best to make a oxygenated "brew" of compost bacteria and the molasses they use to multiply. Totaly forgot that it even had a use when not brewed.

No harm on the foliar feed.. Won't do it with molasses again tho..

One seedling seems to have burst out with a second set of true leaves overnight.

In a couple days it will be time to feed with fish again.

I'll be doing a major test of molasses then.

Last night was about laying a layer of materials down for decomposition.

Yeah I used a very small amount in a spray bottle but enough to see yellowish water with the green kelp.

No these plants are in veg. In fact I had a run of bad luck. I have some seedlings going on week three and some clones and a the others are 2 months.

This spread makes for an intersting group to test molasses on.

I like them all the same age but the start of this season was a flop.

The two month olds have been topped and will be topped again in order to keep them as short as possible while the others catch up somewhat.

I don't know if the clones will compete... I've never grown clones before.

Any suggestions.

I figure reports of an Organic gardener using things is good news even if the topic has been covered.

I added balckstrap to my liquid feed mix.
They are in Veg.

The first thing I noticed, the next day, is that the materials I layed down a few days before became a shell of a crust.

I assume this is the action of microbes and the action of forming aggregate soil particles.

Under my HID the top layer drys and aggregate clumps of materials form.
The soil dries out and I can run my fingers through.

In this case a crust like that of a Brownie, has formed, firm but poke your finger in and find the moist.

I'm pondering this change... No harm atm IMO..

The ones I'm watching are the late replacement seedlings. Late because I had to sprout them to replace those that died. Bad soil mix... Another story.

So I don't know much yet. I do have a dynamic feeding going on so I cannot isolate blackstrap. Still I know what I know...

My reports will be true.

Suggestions? Comments?

Thanks guys..

This is my Medical grow room and the state of things.. Pardon the photo I used M$ digital to shift the HPS hue to more green..

I will work that next liquid feed with bubbling.

What I have done is add a layer of materials for the microorganisms to break down.

Feeding the soil; I'm thinking that will hold for a while. I can use liquid feedings now.

I watered with fish, kelp BSM and sea bird.

Here are the two month olds who started out life stunted from a old soil mix I used to make their soil blocks. My bad! It worked fine fresh the season before. Lesson learned.

I have topped and gone for a bush style on two the one center is the runt of the stunted ones. not topped.

Just wondering if you have to bubble a water/molasses only mix?

I just want to use the molasses as a substitute for Carboload or Sweet...

I don't know that TBG..

I applied mine in a mix. I watered first sprayed it then watered again.

This on top of a layer of materials to feed the soil.

UPDATE...

More lush growth.

The smell of the girls in veg is so heavy I'm concerned when they flower.

It seems to be a richer smell now. It's potent and a smell like hash cooking in brownies but with a hint of chocolate.

For sure they are well fed.

This is different from the same F1's grown before.

I'll use molasses again but not for a while.

Tip on Mixing Molasses..

Tip on Mixing Molasses..

I highly recommend Molasses over any other Carb product.I spent the last year testing various products..esp. Botanicare Sweet..Dollar for Dollar,Molasses actually produces Results, and, can be had for 1/4th the price.I usually start to apply molasses about half way through veg and all through flowering. Here's the tip: Get a cup of warm water and mix you're given amount, 1/2 to 1tablespoon usually, until completly dissolved. Then add this to 1gal. of water and apply.I will generally add the molasses and Liquid karma/maxicrop on the Non-Fertalizer days..just to keep the ppm in the zone.Also..in my test,Molasses was the only addative that imparted any noticable flavor in the finished product of three different test strains.

No, you don't have to bubble the molasses/water mixture....However, if you're trying to feed the microbes, I would add 1 TBS wormcasting to the mixture to give the herd a boost.....LC

I prefer to bubble always. And dried molasses is the best product to do this with. It contains all kinds of organic matter. I prefer a Health food store brand of molasses if this is not avaliable. Tree of Life is a good one. High in carbs and a good line up of minerals that the store bought normally lacks.
