so..
this has been in the works now..

i have used/seen HPS 400 Ceramic metal halide Retro White
and i like them for 400 watt setups..

a friend has used the Philips Ceramic Metal Halide 150 Watt g12

i figured id pass this info on..

a few good things about these vs other lamps...

High LPW vs CFL
less heat than hps in same watt (i dont know why) (400 puts less heat also)
so closer to plants (micro duh)
they have 8,900 lumen's in almost all areas that the plant likes.
so you plant will think its outside sun light

i cant really explain these.. (he wouldn't let me take pics of his setup)
but they produce higher yielding (IMHO) and tighter nugs..

the philips cmh are the first links..i love there CFL and others but for micro philips mini cmh are best..
they have volshe ballasts for these.. i have requested pricing for the lamps..

also the bulb is allot smaler so you can get more effeciant light reflected back down to be usable..

Sounds like a commercial. I like the look though. That's not a standard ballst though and does the bulb require a special socket as well. I noticed the pins. Where do you get a hold of a kit and how much do they cost?

I wouldn't call that optimal.

Heres a plants wavelength requirements:

450nm is the peak of A & B which is shorter internode length. 670 to 700 are on the other end of A & B will cause more stretch.

By far fluorescents have the best spectrum's. I would think that the enviro 100w CFL's would be best for a micro, they have little heat and good spectrum response.

i have personally used a CFL and i dont really like them for micro.. not trying micro again. to small for me
you cant realy get the light from the top side reflected down unless you have a Wide area (most pc cases are thin)
i do like them for Small setups.. though that you can have a full reflector

i should also note these have been discussed a lil bit here for 250 and 400 watt

EYE HORTILUX BLUE (there MH version) i think this is a veg bulb to much blue
and there Cerama Red (there Cermic metal halide red version) not as much red as philips and twice the price
the eye blue is $119.00 for there lowest wattage one..

as far as pricing im finding about 45 for the bulb.. anywhere
from that company there VS ballast 160.00 and they have the Rx7 and G12 connectors avail depending on your setup..
if you have a old flood housing you can use a rx7 and you can make a mini air cooled hood.. (just atatch the top of the flood to the top of the pc case and cut an opening and put a fan there pulling air threw the flood...

this bulb will need allot of discussion as its *new to the hort world..

these bulbs have a smaller shell for lack of better word..
so you can use a smaller reflector and get more lumen's down to the plant..
i really like the lumen max 3 reflector from petplace.com but its 15x11x5" so that one aint for mini pc but great for speaker with fan and vent on top side of it directly out of grow area..

even a 150 hps the shell would have the reflector right next to it..
reflecting heat also..

with the smaller lamp you can make a air cooled hood aswell..

i guess i like Ceramic metal halide for growing.. 400w and smaller.

i haven't seen allot of stretch using the 400 watt version, kept everything tight and solid..

red promotes stretch but when mixed with blue even during flower you will see better results.. thats why peeps like HPS/MH combo systems running both same time.

it has more blue than red.. I like the red from the philips.. not a great one bulb but would complement hps..

they have what they call a cera arc.. its not listed as Horticulture but they say in less than a year it will be avail in usa.. as horti
it is closer to the philips but the price will be the $EYE$ Pricing.
it has a nicer red output..
its pdf for 250 and 400 watt for hps ballasts S50 and S51.. i dont know if they have a 150 watt g12 or rx7.

these compare to the philips HPS retro white 250 and 400 but the philips wins again.there red is more in the red vs eyes right at 600..

if they say there blue rocks how u gona say this one dont..
