Trouble with germination

Hi, wanted to germinate an auto seed I had so I placed in some wet paper towels and between some plates for a few days. After a while of nothing happening placed the plates on top of router for a bit of heat since room temp was 18C. Did not check it daily so paper towel dried a few times and it's been 15 days since I first put the seed in the paper towels.



IME seeds pop out within 5 days so do you guys think I killed the seed? Never tried growing autos before so if possible I would like to revive this seed.

Or....it could be unviable seed.
We either plant in direct medium (soil), or filtered water with a few drops of food grade hydrogen peroxide for 1-2 days, then plant. Paper towels, the cheap kind has bleach remnants making them white...that might be the culprit if towel was continually damp. On top of the refridge is a a good place, or in heater closet.

Hope you can get her going. 70F or ~20C

Most my seeds germinate within 2 days and sprout 2 days afterwards.

Maybe the towels were too wet? This is a common problem, and can cause ‘damping off’ fungus which kills the seed.
Squeeze the towels out a bit so they’re just damp then put in a plastic bag to stop drying.
Imo best way is put the seeds directly in the soil/medium and water lightly, cover and put somewhere warm.

i prefer a cup of water on a heat mat or in a very warm room. the water doesn't evaporate if you use a few inches and lasts me a couple days. seeds float on top of the water even when they have tails so they get oxygen and moisture. i tried paper towels unsuccessfully a few times before i tried this and now i'll never go back.

Yeah, I probably killed it, no big deal. Have some other seeds that did pop out although they're not autos. Was a bit too careless with that seed. Thanks for the replies.



FWIW I soaked the seed for a few hours in glass of water and put in soil on a pot with another plant, if it pops out I'll transplant it but I'm pretty sure it's gone.
