Trouble germing Aurora Indica & Chrystal

Let me start this with I am in no way bashing Nirvana's product... I have been so pleased with the service received from SB and the home provided here at IC, I'm just trying to find out if anyone else has run into problems with these strains and what solutions they have found.

Here's the run down on what has transpired thus far. Thanks to a lovely multi pack special I initially attempted to germ 2 WR, 2 AI, 2 Menage a Trois and 2 Chrystal. The first go was using the paper towel method in a humidity dome on top of my receiver to keep them nice and warm. The two rhino's and Menage's popped within 24 hours and are currently kicking butt. The AI's and Chrystals however did not. I left the 4 that hadn't popped in their towels and am continuing to maintain them in case they are just really late poppers... but it is now about 12 days since and no action. But a few days after the rhino's popped I decided to try another method. I rigged up the matchbox/sandpaper combo and scuffed up 2 more white rhino's and 2 more AI's then placed in the towel/dome. Within 24 hours the rhinos were wagging their tails but nothing from the AI's. Finally, a few days later I decided to try one other method. I took 2 more WR and 2 Chrystals and tried the precrack method. I got a little crazy on the first rhino and dug my nail in way to far, the other three felt "right". The rhino that didn't get the fingernail to deep popped at about 18 hours (left in another 8 hours to get a little more tail) but nothing off the Chrystals. All of the unpopped beans are still being maintained in the paper towels on the heat source but I'm just not seeing any signs of life.
So in closing, I'm sure some will say to contact them and see about a replacement... that's not my intention. It's a live product and I understand there is always a chance of not having them germ, the price was so good and service so expedient that I have no desire to go whining for a few replacement beans as I feel they have more than held up their end of the bargain. What I do want to know is if anyone has run into this with these strains, and if so, have you found a method that is giving you better results. Thanks! LFG

I never had any problems with nirvana seeds germinating, and i've tried a few packs. I wouldn't mess with them until they crack, patience is key. I'd just use the paper towel method and wait, using those precrack methods is a good way to ruin the seeds, even if it speeds the process a little your going to lose seeds in the process.

I have used the paper towel method for years and get 95% or more germination rate within 36-48 hours of germinating. make sure the place your putting them isn't too warm either, warm areas are good but if it's too hot it can dry out the paper towel or at worst kill the seeds. Good Luck

i always get 100% germ rate from nirvana

the best way to ensure your doing everything possible is this:

buy either a variable heated propagator (humidiy dome) or a heated propagator and put a dimmer switch into in or run it though a fan speed controller than dial down the temp so the soil temp /paper towel temp is between 74 and 80 degrees F

this can be found by buying a digital thermometer with a tank thermometer probe then stick the probe in either the soil the seeds are growing in or the paper towel that the seeds are cracking in 78 degrees is perfect !

water with ph 6.0 in the paper towel ,or soil ,or jiffy pellets or rockwool. then if the seeds dont germinate the problem is with the seeds and you know it for certain !

I always get 95% or above from nrvana. I put them in a seal bag with some wet kitchen roll tissue, works every time. I get about 20 seeds per bag and only usually have 1 - 2 that dont pop.

Good luck dude :rasta:

Thanks for the replys. Hopefully I'll have better luck when I try the rest of them... in the mean time, the white rhino's are going great and that's the strain I was most fired up about, also a pack of ak48 from Nirvana that I'll be breaking out next time around.

i feel you on poor germ rates from nirvana. my pack of bubblicious only germed one seed through the paper towel method, but luckily it was a very shitty female. stayed a runt for a long time and wasn't worth keeping...

Does any one just plant the seeds in the soil anymore?
I gave up on germination methods years ago...and I get unbelievable (literally) results by just planting them...keeping them warm and moist..and keeping the light down close. I always just put them right under the 1000 watt MH as well..don't bother with any thing less....

But...then again...there are a few people here who do not believe that I have plants almost three feet tall at about 4 weeks of age....

Oh..and now they have buds starting....

I have just planted seeds before, but i find that they alot longer to come up and i always get a few that have trouble coming up. I use the paper towel method and get 95-100% germination rate in 36 hours or less, i then plant them with the taproot down and give them a little room temp water and they all sprout within 3-5 days. It usually takes 8-12 days for them to sprout when i directly plant them into the soil.
