Trips - help needed

Hi all

Well think it was my turn to get some critters inside.

dsc03621fz8.jpg

Spotted the first trips about 14 days ago - not many or nearly none. So we gave em some Insect-soap (hope its same name in english?) and I bought 2000 trips "eaters" (aslo dunno english name) - these came in 4 envelopes in a "slow release form" - now they have been there for 2½ days and I onlys see more and more trips. Damn they are hatching quick right now.

As facts I can tell you that we fight a little with the temps (as many others right now) but we keep it between 25 an 27 Celcius and the moist is 50-60% all time.

So what should I do? more soap??? - not when using the trips"eaters" i think.
Any way to flip the envelopes to fast release form?
Or is it normal that it takes ??? how long before the eaters I bought will start the war?

Hope some of you can help.

Heres my whole thread - sorry for the danish language. (been thinking bout posting in english, when it gets more excited in there - and the all the critters are RIPs).

i'd recommend pinching off the most infected leaves....
as for remedies....i've only used biological insecticides...i combine pyrethrum and neem oil, they did the trick for me....and it looks like there not to old to us it on them flowering plants...but i can understand you wanne go nuke the bastards...for that you need to listen to other peoples recommendations
hope this helps a bit

ohw yea i just read that you released some bugs into the room...that could be a problem treating the plants ....:chin:

Thx Core

I bought the bugs to solve the problem... And know 2½ days is not much trust I show em. But rather ask now, than act in 10 days - when flowers production hopefully has started. If I should wash em with anything - would be best if done yesterday...

But yeah, hoping somebody have some experience with releasing bug "the slow way" as the ones I bought.

Their name is:
Amblyseius Cucumeris

And the packages should release 500 bugs each = 2000 total on 2x2 meter of flower room.

All help apreciated.

Saturate your plants with a mixture of 1 tablespoon neem oil per gallon of water. Be sure to saturate your plants top and bottom of leaves and top of soil. Spray 4 times over a period of two weeks and your thrips will go away. The first spray sterilizes them then the next sprays continue to get the eggs that are hatching.

spinosad is perfect... for pretty much any insect. Thing about the stuff is, its toxic upon spraying but 10x more toxic when they eat the plant material with it sprayed on. Its OMRI listed, so its organic and deals with spider mites as well.

Greenlight makes a spinosad and then Monterey Garden Insect Spray are the two brands found in the states.

Hi again all... and thanks.

Well, should I take your answers as - the bugs I bougt - doesnt work? none of you except Core mentioned them... And I bought em cause I wanted to do it the "natural" way.

Hope some of you have some information... and if the bugs are bullocks, then plz. tell me so I can forget about them and get started with a plan B.

Which might as well could be that spinosad... But it would kill my bugs also.

The bugs are told to eat 2 thrips laves a day, and formate 2 new bugs - each. So 4000 can quickly formate - or its what I thought...

Have a nice one...

release the beasts (Amblyseius) you got there. sprinkle them over your plants.
and get some sticky yellow paper, for when they (your thrips) start to fly.

Those are not Thrips....Looks more like whiteflys....maybe aphids...Thrips are Generally
black....and leave more of a shit spot mark on the leaves.

If for some reason I am wrong and they are Thrips, then get Monterey Gardern Insect Spray with Spinosad...it comes concentrated,so a small bottle goes a long way.
Two applications and you will completely wipe those fuckers out.

Hi again

Thanks for quick reply.

I think the beasts in the pics are their larvas - or what they are called. So not the actual grown thrips - these are more brown - and more like the pics in Core's excellent guide with pics.

-Jokercow - do you mean that I should spread out the envelopes over the plants - loosely?

I also bought 500 bugs for "spindemider" dunno english word, but if directly translated its spidermites??? - cause I saw a little web in the top of some plants... but we have normal spiders too... and let these live to take bigger insects.

thats i think the best and easyest way !!

your bugs will work but take care of the temp. in your room. they like it like 16 °C and a high humidity ! 2-3 days is not enough time for them, normally you will see them working after a week or so.

not use neem now, as it would kill also your bugs but next time dont be concerned about the neem because its full natural and works really great !!

some wiki c&p:
(Neem is a fast-growing tree that can reach a height of 15-20 m (about 50-65 feet);
In India, the tree is variously known as "Divine Tree";
Products made from neem have proven medicinal properties, being anthelmintic, antifungal, antidiabetic, antibacterial, antiviral, anti-infertility, and sedative;
Neem is a source of environment-friendly biopesticides. Among the isolated neem constituents, limonoids (such as Azadirachtin) are effective in insect growth-regulating activity. The unique feature of neem products is that they do not directly kill the pests, but alter the life-processing behavior in such a manner that the insect can no longer feed, breed or undergo metamorphosis.[3] However, this does not mean that the plant extracts are harmful to all insects. Since, to be effective, the product has to be ingested, only the insects that feed on plant tissues succumb. Those that feed on nectar or other insects (such as butterflies, bees, and ladybugs) hardly accumulate significant concentrations of neem products.

good grow !

Thank you very much. So your advice will be to wait 3-4 days to see if my bugs helps me... The 2000 bugs are meant for 16 squaremeters - so I hope there is hope for them to do it...

Neem oil like this:
http://cgi.ebay.de/100-reines-NEEM-...ryZ56602QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Translated: 100% pure neem oil / and 10 ml for 1,25 liter water.
So just need to find a bigger size bottle of the neem or buy many of these, they r pretty cheap...

Thx again - means alot

Jep, like this....myone is from plagron, paid like 9€ for 100ml. you dont need much, i add just 2-3 drops on a liter of warm water. for rapid help, spray them first (NOT WHEN LIGHS ON!!) and then put also a few dops in the watering-water.... i use this method until like 2-3 weeks before harvest and since this i never had a problem with pests.

p.s. check temporally the healthy of your bugs, you shut slowly seeing population going up after couple of days .this would be the most important, since you will need a lot more of them to win the war. :dueling: lol
if they start getting more (hope temp not to high), normally you won!

i see orange lights, so you are in flower ? otherways, in vegtime the plants dont need much time to regenerate after trips. what strains ? room is looking really nice !!

Hi again

Ladybugs - dunno them, another name?

MapleMonk

Thank you
My growthread is here, but only in danish sofar:
http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=92422
We have room for 100 square 8 liter soil pots. Currently running 93 or so, and just turned to flower cycle 3 days ago.

Strains are
DCxEroc/DP (outdoor)
DPxErdpurt (outdoor)
HashberryxEroc/DP (outdoor)
Arjans Haze #2
SensiStarxSkunk#1
HTC DCxSkunk#1
White Widow
2 Pounder
Purple Bastard (Core)SpaceQueenxLemonPrice
FoeberryxAK47/DSDv2
Chrystal
Ice
PPP
Katsu Bubba Kush
Chemdog
SSSDH
Amnesia Haze

Looking for a nice AK47 - also... but first after I get rid of the intruders.

This is somekind of testgrow where we wanted to find our coming mothers... besides the sssdh, amnesia, katsu, chemdog. These I became from som nice fellow growers... So these are selected from other breeders.

It scares me I havent seen 1 single bug yet, and they been there for 3 days. The temps are 25-27 C and nothing we currently can do about that. So should I spread out the envelopes in the soil?

Thx again

DrawoH - sonds like a nice product. But should I give the bugs a go first?

Just been reading this in the start threads...
Thrips Predators are actually predatory mites and are tan-orange in color and similar in looks and movement to the spider mite predator. These guys work good at keeping populations under control but you need to have the predator population built up and established early in the crop, even before evidence of thrips. These predators provide a means of control in the foliage but will not eliminate thrips in your garden.

My faith to the bugs are on a rollercoaster downride...

I better get some of that AVID or use the neem oil. Anyway it will take 5-6 days of shipping caused of weekend. But I better go get it.

Which do you mean is the best? avid or neem?

thx
