TRIMMING help!!

Guest

Ok so I have searched the site only to find about a 50% oppose and 50% say on with the show. Here is the deal:

Obvisouly I trim the dead/dying/sick leaves off and what not, my question concerns cutting leaves oon the top layers of the plant as well as the small budsites around the lower part of the plants.

Should I trim leaves in the higher area of the plants? If so...should I go crazy or do just a few fan leaves here and there? Also do I cut the whole thing off or do I just cut about 1/3 of the leaves (saw some pics) to help get some light through?

Should I cut off all the small lower surrounding budsites even though they look OK, to get more focus on the more lit/important bud sites?

Should I do both?

Being around 2.5 weeks of flower I need to start trimming or something. I have 2.5 feet plants with a 270 HPS, Agro.

I have searched forever and I need a more clear cut answer. DOES TRIMMING increase yield???? Whther it be fan leaves from top or small budsites on surrounding the bottom.... DOES IT HELP??? SOMEONE HAS TO KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE!!!

thanks :)

Bud sites that are not in direct light will not form full dense buds. So if you can't tuck the leaf out of the way I'd trim it along with the lower bud sites that don't get any light.

Yea that is what I figured, probably going to snip the lower sites off anf trim back a few leaves..... Just wanted to make sure, it would suck like hell to make a mistake this late... more responses are always appriciated...

The upper fan leaves are what I'm talking about. Trim only if they cover a budsite and cannot be tucked out of the way.

i never trim off fan leaves but do two gently trims near bottom of stem taking only bud sites that would not receive much light and even a few of the smaller lateral branches that wouldnt get big or compete with the higher branches. I also do it in the early stages of flower never past the third week.

If you want lots of popcorny small buds you can leave the lower branches on the plant. I would trim the lowest 2 branches but this depends on the # of branches your plant has. This can increase airflow under the canopy as well..
If it increases yield yes or no is difficult to say but I think what would go into those branches will be used somewhere else in the plant.

As dre said, you can trim the lower branches to eliminate popcorn buds. After the 4th week, I trim all inner branches and buds that will not get much light. I hate to trim popcorn and with tree grows, you can get a lot of it if you don't trim.

With 2 1/2 ft. plants, it should be sufficient to just trim lower branches that don't get much light. I agree w/ JJ that the fan leaves on top are providing the sugars for the buds and should be left.
