Trichs, Clear to Amber?

On average, how long does it take the trichs to turn Amber?

I may be leaving for 3 days and would like to know before I come back dried, crusted buds with no trichs, Thanks!

From clear? Usually a couple of weeks at least. Depends on when they start putting on trichs.

I see maybe 15% amber now, seems like these things dont want to turn amber for nothing, whats that tell us? anything unusual? soil, organic, 2 flush, was hopping I had timed the flushing right, but i didnt....:noway:

I use a number of other metrics by which to gauge doneness, if that's what you're after. Some strains just don't follow the progression we're taught to expect: clear-->cloudy-->amber.

  • New pistils vs red hairs: is it still popping a lot of new pistils, or is it mostly red hairs with a few new pistils here and there?

Bananas? Many girls just throw them when they're nearing doneness.

Bud building & swelling, or just ripening? In other words, are the buds continuing to get bigger and put on weight, or have they 'stalled'?

Adding these other metrics to the progression of trichome color allows you to better gauge doneness, and allows you more flexibility in how you make that assessment.

The last for me might be measuring Brix, and perhaps, NH4:NO3 ratios.

Bananas? Many girls just throw them when they're nearing doneness. I have been affraid of that, but none so far.

Bud building & swelling, or just ripening? In other words, are the buds continuing to get bigger and put on weight, or have they 'stalled'? Huge stall, almost a stop.

Adding these other metrics to the progression of trichome color allows you to better gauge doneness, and allows you more flexibility in how you make that assessment.

i would normally start a 10day flush once the trich is mostly milky with minimal amounts of amber and 10 days of water is enough to make 70% of the trich turn from milky to amber.

The time you're in right now is mostly for personal preference, on how potent the psychoactive effect is imo.

I say water them before you leave and the soil will be dry by the time you get back and will be ready to chop.

Hi Bloom,

Excellent work getting this far! From clear to amber it usually take a week or two depending on the strain. You will be fine to leave them alone for a couple of days but Talonted is right, now is the time to be flushing the soil.

The longer you leave the trichomes to develop, the more of a body stone you will get. It's all personal preference I guess. Good luck friend!
