Traveling on a bus.

Is there anything a person should know about traveling on a bus in the US. I've never seen the country on a bus, but old people do it all the time-so it must be a good way to travel.

It's cheap, but there are a lot of dirty, smelly, weird people that you'll be sharing it with. If you plan on bringing weed on the bus make sure it's wrapped up good to prevent smell.

Depending on the company/tour you get on it could be a long ride. Knew a guy that went back and forth from Fl. to Cali twice on greyhound, trip was SEVEN days 1-way. 3 days to get through Texas.:noway:

Wouldn't a bus be one of the safest ways to travel? Being driven around by a pro:)
Would it be safe to bring a backpack of food with you? Say around 1-2 lbs.

OR would a rental car be safer?

Unless things have changed in 20 years from the time I rode a bus, busses suck major ass. That is unless you like traveling with the homeless and people who appear to be in the final throes of the Bubonic plague.

what 3 days through Texas ive rode greyhound twice in early 80's texas only took 24hrs plan eating 3 meals in texas. from scottsdale to orlando 3 days total, from orlando to my current rock in the town 3 days. now that trip was great left FLA with a nice 1/4 oz money in the pocket got laid on the bus between georgia n dallas. traveling on the bus can be quite the experince few things to know

be aware of your who n whats around you
dont flash money for today buy a secured credit card put your money on it.
be friendly but not overly unles you plan to get off bus for a day or 2 you'll be experincing the country at about 75-80 MPH. theres the several stops in small towns large towns and such but missing your bus can be a PIA. unless your back packing it and its on ya your bus will leave on time with or with out you.
if you bring smoke make sure its sealed tight ya really wont have much a chance to smoke. bus stops are normally short unless its meal time or a layover

if you choose to see this wonderful country in this manner enjoy yourself and be aware

Yea busses are... horrible haha. Trains I think are better.. Get your own compartment if you pay for it.. Plus they are alittle faster and have a little better class of people... To have all the benefits of a road trip your should drive with friends... Make sure you get a convertable.. Also make sure you stop in vegas.. When I think of a road trip I think of a classic Cadillac convertable, Vegas and the desert...

So it sounds like it's fairly safe to travel on a bus with a pound or two of "food", lets say...frosted nuggets breakfast cereal:)-As long as there's no smell.
Wouldn't want anyone else smelling the food and getting hungry.

Does the bus ever make stops where there are dogs??? Wouldn't want that as some people are allergic to dogs. I've read that in Europe there are dogs on some terminals.

vacuum seal my friend. should be ok. also get a small lock for your bag. never know some fucker might be tryin to take your ipod and grab your big stash of "snacks" for the trip.

had a girl friend of mine(just a friend) at a party once, with 2 zips of mine in her purse we grabbed on the way but didnt want to leave in the car because our friend would always drive off early, someone went to steal her wallet and camera they had seen out of her bag, caught the dude out bag showing off my bag. needless to say me and my big muscly friend were like DUDE THAT WEED IS GREAT, and proceeded to bash his face in.

good luck!.....but ya i prefer trains

Many major metro bus and train stations have either local, regional task force or DEA satellite offices on premises, and it is standard practice for both of such to be boarded during stops by the same as above, with dogs.

Amtrak's reservation system also feeds directly to DEA systems. (Local and National...ie: All feeds to Washington, and city access's city)

(A simple search of "Amtrak+DEA"will turn up more than a decades worth of coverage. They voluntarily made the arrangement to generate revenue)

One also should be aware, airlines, train lines, and bus line employees are all offered rewards of up to 20% of seizures. (Endless cases of someone walking up to counter, pays cash, and they alert on site interdiction to person)

Watch out on those busses man, my friend started out in the north east when he got out of the navy, and had to take a bus to minnesota for school. He got mugged 3 times on the way over.

i just used a glass jar to store the dank, not a long trip though, bay to LA on greyhound
beware though, they search your bags on the way out of the LA station
and yea, its like an airline in that you always end up next to the fattest smelliest mutherfucker, but since its greyhound/a bus, they're fucking poor too and smell like a bag full of assholes
trick for making bus travel acceptable?
