Transplanting in a smaller container ?

Hi guys,

I was wondering about transplanting some autos in smaller containers than the pots they're in now, because I have a bunch of plants that are still outdoor, they need about 40 days to finish and as the weather has turned shit, I really doubt they would survive. They're in 6L pots, but there's absolutely no way I bring them indoor, no space at all.
So what if I gently cut the roots and transplant in smaller pots ? What do you think would happen, considering they are autos ? Any chance to save them that way ?

Thanks,
:tiphat:

MMM not sure i would ever try to downsize pots...Its gonna create lots of stress for the plan ti would think, and cutting the roots is deff not good at all...its gonna increase the growing time and not allow the plant to grow to its full potential... Just my opinion on the matter:wave:

not sure itll work but sounds better than cutting the roots or discarding the plants- if you can, put the ball of soil/roots from the pot in/flush in water and work it carefully with ur hands to get the soil off till u end with just the roots. then try stuff the roots into some soil in a smaller pot and hope itll survive. did similar to seperate 2 small plants with roots twinned into eachother once, worked, but not sure its a good idea with older plant and lotta roots.. but if no other way could be worth a try =P

Hey mate :) Speaking of plant's potential.... it's been raining every f***king day for two weeks, I don't think they can get to their full potential if I leave them outside... I don't know what would be best, leaving them where they are and hope for the best, or stressing them that way...

fatcat0491 : Not sure I get the idea :dunno:

weedbringer : Yep, maybe this would be better than cutting the roots...I've thought about removing the whole root system from the soil, it's not a bad idea. The difficult part would be to get the roots back into soil
Anyone else experienced that or cutting roots ?

Cheers mates

I would put them in a soil bed. Maybr a sterilite container. You'll make them think they got a bigger home.
