How long has this problem been going on?
Since transplant 5 days ago

What STRAIN are you growing?
I'm told its AK

What was the establishing technique? (seed or clone?)
clone

What is the age of your plants?
Not certain, judging from height ~3 weeks?

How Tall are the plants?
8-10"

What PHASE (seedling, vegetative or flower) are the plants in?
Veg

What Technique are you using? (SOG, SCROG etc)
Nothing special, soil and a plant

What size pots are you using? (Include how many subjects to pot)
16 oz cupz

What substrate/medium are you using? What brand of soil mixture are you using? (percentage of perlite, vermiculite...etc?)
Blaze's soil recipe at 1/2 strength.
- 2 cf Promix HB (microhizzaye)
- 1 cf MG Garden Soi
- 1/2 cup Bone Meal
- 1/2 cup Blood Meal
- 1/4 cup dolomite lime (powdered agricultural)
- 20% chunky perlite

What Nutrient's are you using? How much of each with how much water? How Often? *Knowing the brand is very helpful*
No added nutrients right now

What is the TDS/EC/PPM of your nutrients used?
N/A

What is the pH of the "RUN-OFF"?
6.7

What method of pH test was administered? Using Strips? pH pen?
pH pen

How often are you watering?
2-3 days, watered last night

When was your last feeding and how often are you feeding?
N/A

What size bulb are you using?
Under 1000w HPS

Steady 78-80

What is the Day/Night Temp? (Include fluctuation range)
Day - 78-80 Night 75-78

What is the current Air Flow? (cfm etc.)
Exhausting @ ~750cfm

Is the fan blowing directly at plants?
No. Floor "Vortex" type circular fans. Pointing straight up recirculating air

Is the grow substrate constantly wet or moist?
Wait for dry to water

Is your water HARD or SOFT?
Pretty soft. PPM's are negligible (>50)

What water are you using? Reverse Osmosis (RO)? Tap? Bottled? Well water?
Distilled? Mineral Water?
Tap

Has plant been recently pruned, cloned or pinched?
Did some minor fan leaf halving thinking the fan leaves were to much to be sustained by plant under stress

Have any pest chemicals been used? If so what and when?
N/A

Are plant's infected with pest's?
No

Like a dummy, I gave them a high dose of superthrive (a drop or two per 32 ounces -- wayyyy too much I know :/) So I suspect that causing the discoloration and burning shown in the pics below. Same plant, flash off/on. The pH of the water I have going in is a little high (8.0) so I know I need to get some pH down. I'm just looking for some opinions.

To me, this is supported by the seedling I have in the exact same soil mix that seem to be doing quite well. This one is 8-9 days old.

Superthrive does not contain nutrients which would cause a burn.

That looks like straight up nitrogen deficiency.

That doesn't look like burn at all. Burn will occur around the edges of the plant and you will start to see necrotic (brown/dying) areas where it has occurred. In addition, the tips/edges of the leaves will very likely start to curl.

2 questions:

1) Since you're using plain tap water: are you bubbling it or letting it sit?
2) Did you mix the soil up first with some moisture and let it sit for at least 24 hours?

Organic soil mixes need some time to sit in order to work (properly). The plants are not actually sucking up the blood meal that you put in for nitrogen. The bacteria and organisms feed on the blood meal and release nitrogen in a form that is available for the plant to intake. It takes some time for this process to begin.

I did as much reading as possible before hand, so I did pick up on letting the soil sit for a while. This mix has been sitting for roughly a month with a little bit of moisture added. Definitely has an excellent, rich smell to it.

I thought the problems could have been root related so I transplanted into 3 gal bags today. Root growth was excellent, filling my 16 oz solo cups in a matter of days. I mixed my flowering mix (roughly double the nutrient content of the mix they were in) and did that tonight. I will post some pictures tomorrow of the root growth these suckers had.

As far as the watering, it is straight from the tap, non aerated. I have been basing most of my soil work off of Blaze's, and he was able to do the same. I will have to watch the pH, though it should begin to turn more acidic, correct. Perhaps I should stick with the pH 8 water?

I kinda of had a hunch it was a nutrient deficiency also, but wanted to double check with the experts first since I thought it could be shock.

From what I've seen, however, they are already looking much better.

Glad they're looking much better! Leaves can make a comeback from deficiencies. I hope everything goes well for you.

I'm a bit concerned about your response on the water supply, though. Water straight from the tap without "aerating," or bubbling means you're negating absolutely all the work you're putting into going organic.

Chlorine kills and destroys everything that makes organics tick.

Most municipal water supplies have at least free chlorine in it. This can be evaporated out by letting the water sit for at least 24 hours.

However, many cities use chloramine in the water supply now. This cannot be evaporated out of the water.

You should at the very least let your tap water sit out, uncovered, for at least 24 hours before use.

I would recommend finding out what kind of chlorine you have in the water. If it's free chlorine, then bubbling/letting the water sit should be fine. If it's chloramine, however, then you need to be prepared to remove the chloramine if you want to have a successful, organic experience.

Just thought I would update. Plants have responded quite well to transplanting. I have seen almost 1" of vertical growth in my strongest plant, maybe 1/2" from the weakest. Also began misting them 2-3 times a day due to negligible humidity. So far, further yellowing has been stopped and the majority of fan leaves have taken a moderately strong green to them. Bushiness has been gained and, overall, vigor appears to be coming back. Looks like all will be well. Whew!

On a side note, my two seedlings I sprouted are showing phenomenal lateral growth.

Good deal!

Good deal!

I had a feeling they would once ya transplanted. Those plants had ta root bound in those cups. I'm glad ta see ya update this, so many don't. Nobody learns anything like that. Good luck with the rest of yer grow! Take care... BC

Yeah they were a tad. Take a peak over here. I just started a new thread for my AK's. I have a picture of the roots from the 16oz cups and a current (today) picture of my best clone in 3 gal.

Edit Add: Due to concerns about chlorine affecting my microhizzaye microherd, I might also purchase some supplemental SubCulture B to go with R.O.
