Hello fellow Ic'ers....well I have a grow going on (bagseed) of some weed I dub and bed purple and some I dubbed fruit all becuase of it's traits..the purple was purple oh boy she was/is purple and well the fruit just tasted and smelled fruity/berryish....

Anyways I have 2 purples and four fruits all germed at the same time now about 2.5-3 months in veg started in solo cups then transplanted to 1 gallon containers.

One purple is looking like a sativa pheno while the other remains more indica dominant...all fruits are pretty much indicas or hybrids with more indica then sativa in them.

I have taken clones of all the plants namely the purple #1 as she has the most beautiful red/purple stem/stock and she smells oh so good (kind of berrish grapish with a lemon after scent) and purple two which has all traits of purple 1 just not as stinky but still a stinker and predominately indica.

Before I switch to flower this weekend I need to transplant and the biggest I can fit are 3 gallon containers so the sativaesque purple will be going to a friend (don't worry I have plenty of fresh cut clones) so I can fit the four fruits and the one indica predominate purple for full bloom.

My question is do you think 3 gallon containers will suit them for their full bloom life (60-80 days)?
All plants except for purple # 1 (the sativa pheno) are about 12" to 15" tall.

Yes they will be fine, but I'm not sure transpanting just yet is optimum. You want the rootball to really fill that 1 gal container before burying it about halfway down in the 3 gal pot during transplant, this way roots will grow down and outwards from the rootball utilizing all the available soil. Also, did you start in 4 inch before transplanting to the 1 gal?Its highly recommended for the very reasons I explained earlier.Wise utilization of available media at different stages is the key,not the volume of the containers themselvesEDIT To give you an idea I start in 4 inch standard nursey pots and grow plants to 8-10 inches depending on pheno, watering every other day is the indicator for trnaplant. The I go to NSI classic 600 2 gal nusery container(1.6 gal) and depending on if I'm going to finish in 3 gal,may grow the plant to 30 inches or better in the 2 gal(1.6)

They were started in a paper towel then planted into 16oz solo cups once rootbound in the solo cups I transplanted to the 1 gallon containers...they are begining to get rootbound in the 1 gallon containers and I am transplanting Friday/Saturday.

Sounds like you did it correctly,4 inch pots,12-16 oz cups, makes no difference so long as you let the plant grow into it before transplanting.

Ya, if your sure their root bound, then go ahead and give them a transplant. I actually have found that letting the root ball reach the sides of the pots causes the plants to jump when actually transplanted. Similar to what soilman has said!

I have a related question, I usually go from 16 oz beer cups to 1/2 gl nursery containers.

A well rooted clone in a beer cup leaves little room to the bottom of the nursery pot.
Recently I cut several cups down to leave more soil to the bottom of the 1/2gl pot. I want to see which fills out the nursey container best.
Any Op's on which will produce a better rootball?
Thanks Jnugg,

Thats fine, but thats actually a 1 gal nursery container. In reality they hold approx .7 gal,the two gallon 1.6 gal etc etc.
