Just watched a video of train travel these days from New York to Florida
Riding Amtrak New York to Florida
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S76zRSJu8d8

This looks like it could be fun with a private sleeper "room" on longer trips. Does anyone know if this is possible from San Francisco to Orlando or Los Angeles to Orlando? Are the trains secured by rottweiler dogs that sniff your ass when strolling by ?

Any OLD people who have done this rather than drive yourself?

Lifted from Amtrack:
Experienced travelers say the California Zephyr is one of the most beautiful train trips in all of North America. As you climb through the heart of the Rockies, and further west through the snow-capped Sierra Nevadas, you may find it hard to disagree. The Zephyr runs daily between Chicago and San Francisco, coursing through the plains of Nebraska to Denver, across the Rockies to Salt Lake City, and then through Reno and Sacramento into Emeryville/San Francisco. Connections in to San Francisco and Oakland stations via Thruway Bus Service at Emeryville, California.

If you anticipate requiring medication en route, please carry it with you aboard your train. You must be capable of self-administering any medications you bring with you.
Do not pack your medication in checked baggage, or leave it packed in your car on the Auto Train, as you will not have access to your checked bags or vehicle during your journey.
Private Stock
You may bring aboard your own private stock of alcoholic beverages subject to the following limitations:
You may consume private stock alcoholic beverages only in Sleeping Car accommodations for which you have a valid ticket.
You may not consume private stock alcoholic beverages in any public areas.

In the late 1950's I would ride the Alaska Railroad from Fairbanks to the grandparents farm in Wasilla.
Four hours out of Fairbanks the train passed through where Denali Park is now located. No tourist stop for photos back then but it took an hour to get through that section and the windows were like a magnet pulling my eyeballs to the view.

Made the trip every spring and fall for nine years, I can play back most of the journey in my mind. Isolated cabin dwellers had a flag they flew if the train needed to stop for a passenger. We would also stop for wildlife on the tracks, usually Moose but once a small black bear wanted to argue right of way with the train.
I guess kids will be kids no matter the species.

The Alaska Range is a northern extension of the Rockies and I would guess much of the wild country the railroad travels in is stupendous in both areas equally.

That Amtrak (Zephyr?) that goes through Oregon on it's way west would be a fun one to take for the views. It runs along a river, and I have driven the road and wished I was on the train. I would probably bring edibles so as to not arouse any suspicious noses.

The other one I would have liked to take is the run down the coast from Lomopc, CA, about to Ventura or so, then maybe turn around and go back.

I've never been on a train except for one that runs up in NE somewhere I had to take from here to there once. Ran through a bunch of shitty areas, as expected in densly populated areas.

Edibles' and a one hit bong with carbon filled spoof always worked great for long flights, not sure why a train would be any different.

Damn, that's what I was afraid of..........

With all these people dying of WuFlu, why not buy a metal casket out there, stuff it to get the weight, and have it transported (on a train to keep on topic) to where you need it? Who is gonna open a WuFlu death coffin and sniff around?
