Toxic paint?

I'm having an issue with my Mother Box since I painted it, and with temperatures staying around 77 I know its not heat.

When the 5 mothers are in the painted box, they droop down like they're overwatered, start to yellow, twist and miss-shape themselves.

When I take them out and put it into another rubbermaid container they come back to life (to about 80%).

I used Sico 100% acrylic latex primer paint, anyone had this issue or hear of it?

Anyone that's used paint succesfully in rubbermaid containers mind letting me know what kind of paint you used?

This sucks I spent an entire afternoon painting it white...

run the lights in it for 24 hours or so and put a fan in there blowing like crazy.

could just need some time to cure, I haven't ever had problems with paint before, but I always air it out in there for 24 hours or more before I put plants in.

Primer is not like regular paint. It has chemicals added to it to make it stick better and it is very porous, which helps the next coat adhere better but which also makes it more susceptible to out-gassing. Putting on a coat of a non-primer type paint would help with your problem. Then let your box cure for a couple days and make sure it's well aired out.

PharmaCan hit the nail on the head, I used a Primer :(

So I'm going to coat 3-4 layers of non primer over it, let it air out with fans and lights for at least 72 hours and then re-attempt to introduce my plants.

My one mother is pretty much a write off, I'll post some pictures and more specific information within a couple days so that anyone else that makes this mistake can diagnosis it immediately and protect their investment.

exactly

air it out for sure,

you might think it is done airing but once the doors are closed up and the lights are on it might still mess with them.

that is the one thing that worries me when thinking of painting my cab. I am going to use reflective material, easier to clean and allow me to take them out if wanting to clean the cab out versus trying to paint and deal with the possible chem issues.

just to put it out there I only ever used primer too, so I am not sure it has more chemicals in it or not. I have never had a problem.

It could be the brand, and really 3-4 coats of another paint could be problematic. but who knows...

I know old school primer is made from lime.

Oi that sucks, well since re-coating might continue the issue i'm going to say screw it and buy another Rubbermaid and use reflective material...

Don't use Sico 100% acrylic Latex based Primer.
