From my understanding, those are like overgrowths of saps and resins. Not sure what it means your plant is going through, but I dont think its terrible..

Although I've never seen that many except maybe in a book or something.

Thats Scale.
Are these plants outdoors?
They are microscopic bugs that attatch to the stem and form a hard shell over top of themselves and suck on sap from the stem.

Get a Q-tip, dip it in Isopropyl Alchohol and dap the scale with it. The alchohol will dryout the shell and kill the scale.

Good luck.

they are indoors but in a garage

someone else said scale as well. the plants are ready to harvest so im just going to chop and trim them. thank you for the help guys. in combating another outbreak would bleaching the inside of the cab be sufficent? for sterilization? was going to grab one of those hotshot no pest strips as well. and hope they do not come back.

so if it is scale, what they secrete is called honeydew? and its edible, possibly even smokeable. does it contain sap from the plant? that would contain thc? sounds interesting.

Scale bugs yep, and they can be a bit tough to get rid of. Their shells make them pretty tough. As for smoking Scale-shit, sure give it a try...tell me how it tastes. My guess would be not worth it, sap doesn't contain THC only trichs do. And scales suck the sap from vessels.

My advice, Hot Shot No Pest Strips in your grow space are a no-no, they give off poisonous vapors and have no business in enclosed spaces with plants, or other things that live, plenty of other organic methods of control---pyrethrins, Neem, etc I like the alcohol dab trick that's cool.
